My boyf & I went well out of our way to go to this restaurant and we were very disappointed. It was nearly fully booked and there was a queue when we arrived at 6pm (opening) so was expecting something spectacular.... and it was not. No music or atmosphere at all, so it was very quiet and we felt like... More

The place's nice, and we were surrounded by Germans (I guess this is a plus because, although this is a quite known tourist destinations, it means it's also frequented by locals). The food is good; we tried what I believe to be their special: half a chicken with potato salad. Perfect for an informal dinner, good vibes and kind waiting... More

This place is just amazing! The place itself has a lot to say. This restaurant is more than 100 years old and it has a great soul, atmosphere and identity. You must go there. The major dish here is their special chicken which is not small and maybe you can consider to share it with an another person (one for... More

Came here with friends on a weekend for dinner. Didn't make a reservation despite being advised to - and managed to get a table right away. The restaurant was only about 80% full during peak hours which was contrary to other reviews saying it's often crowded. Menu was rather basic and limited - practically everyone was having half a fried... More

Went there while vacationing with friends. Basically they have chicken, beer, potato salad, coleslaw, and rolls. No butter...but rolls!! We asked! The best chicken you will ever have, ice cold beers in a historic atmosphere. I believe the correct info on JFK, and there is a letter over the bar, was that he was trying to dine there on a... Historic Berlin restaurant that has built its reputation on fabulous fried chicken. Casual ambience with outside patio if the weather cooperates. Delicious chicken - very large servings. Just take your time and drink in the setting. Check out the fascinating history. Make sure you have reservations.

Proof that simple is best. Fried chicken, potato salad, cool beer. Very reasonable and we managed to get a table without reservation on a weeknight. It clearly worked for JFK on his visit too...

An Berlin institution that is worth the visit for the ambiance, not to mention the chicken. We visited last Saturday night & despite a mix up with the booking (100% my fault) we ended up loving it. We waited about 15 mins for a table & ended up sharing with 2 other guests which made the evening even better. The... More

Went for dinner and it ended up being one of our favorite places in Berlin. Incredibly good chicken at reasonable prices. Nice staff. I really lined the look of the place -old school and very comfortable. It's popular with tourists, but also locals. I wouldn't go to Berlin without coming here. Highly recommended.

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
