Definitely a touristy place but food is decent. Go with a good appetite and order the Hofbräu “Schlachter“ platter; served in the pan (for two or more persons) Half a crunchy knuckle of pork, pork roast, Bavarian meat loaf, grilled pork sausages, weisswurst, potato dumpling, coleslaw, sauerkraut and a side serving of dark beer gravy. Live music.

I went for my birthday, because I knew what a great place this is to go if you ever are in Berlin, and as usual I wasn't disappointed, everything is always perfect, and the atmosphere outstanding, and the best part of it all was having an amazing waitress who was so kind and nice, everything was perfect and she made... Unlike many of the other bars restaurants in Berlin, this place is not pretentious or desperate to be hipster. It is basic good food. Good beer and good music. Really enjoyed it all.

I went on Monday and the atmosphere was very lively. There was typical german band and I felt like being in Oktoberfest. I love beer and I recommend Hofbrau dunkel with famous eisbein.

Visited with family and had the sharing meat platter which was fantastic and easily too much for the group size! Very tasty though and the beers were great. Can see why so many people visit here, we had a great time and a great atmosphere! And you can get souvenirs on the way out if you want!

The food is ok, what you'd expect from a bierhaus, it was nice enough, the drinks were good and the music was enjoyable, the cost was €50 for two of us with 2 drinks each and food, I had schnitzel, hubby had meatballs, both good enough, worth it for the atmosphere and good fun energetic music from the band, I... I have been to a few bierkeller type bars in the past but this was one of the best. Really friendly and nice waiter, and the food which I expected to be average at best was really good. The wiener schnitzel was cooked well with a nice crispy coating and the accompaniments were excellent. Great atmosphere as well on the... More

It is a great place to come for a nice time with music and great food with big portions. We had Schnitzel and Putensteak von Grill, also Obatzer. Was a lot for two people and super delicious.

We went here for a meal on our last night in Berlin, we had seen it reviewed on the Rick Stein weekend television programme and thought it looked good fun. We found the service brilliant, a very nice young man, the food was average and was served very quickly (obviously sat waiting to be ordered) the music was good fun.... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
