This used to be favorite place in Berlin. Not anymore. The food got worse and the staff was rude. They used to have the best schnitzel but now it was probably worse than the one at IKEA. They used to serve potato salad but now...they only had frozen French fries.More

Charming cafe local clientele. We enjoyed cold beer and shared a late lunch of pork schnitzel which was very large and delicious.

I decided to revisit this place having had a superb experience there back in 2016 and was extremely disappointed. The restaurant itself is still lovely, with great atmosphere and wonderful décor, and the great selection of fruit brandies make a superb end to a meal...if you like that kind of thing. Also, the food tasted great. That's as far as the positive aspects of my recent visit go. I got the Berliner Liver, which again tasted great but which has definitely shrunk in portion size since my last visit. More important, however, was the standard of service we received. Our waitress was rude to us from the moment we stepped through the door: presumably not realising that I understood German, she had a good joke about my name with another waitress while she was checking our booking at the bar. She was consistently rude to us throughout our meal, questioning our choices from the menu and being generally short and curt in manner with us, and the cherry on the cake was when she pointed out several times that the tip was not included in the bill and that in Germany the standard tip was 10-15%, then stood by our table and waited to make sure that she'd been tipped sufficiently before she would let us leave our table. I understand that tipping culture works differently in Germany than in the UK, but that doesn't make that kind of behaviour excusable. Totally spoiled by this incredibly rude waitress (who quite frankly didn't deserve a tip at all). Bitterly disappointed by this experience considering how much I enjoyed my visit last time and how much I wanted to enjoy it this time around. Would have to think very carefully about visiting again.More

Went here to try some traditional foods of Germany and it was very good. Waitress was super friendly and made a couple of recommendations one of which was the beef liver with onions apple and mash and I cleared the plate the 2nd was to...try their homemade liquors and again were very good. I highly recommend this place.More

Excellent food! My family wanted a traditional German meal and we found it here! Where else can you get the best Königsberger Klopse in Berlin? Loved it…

The restaurant is in the heart of the most popular neighbourhood of Kudamm at Savigny Platz. You have to book if you want to go there as it is always busy. You must try the Schnitzel if you go to this perfect restaurant. Very good...service and friendly.More

People are friendly. They got us in without reservations (they are usually book solid). The food was excellent, portions sizes are gigantic. Awesome authentic gemerman food!

The pork Snitzel was just ok, the chicken Snitzel smelled like fish and everything was overpriced. Try the burger burgermeister instead

Atmosphere and food were good: A true German experience. The service was not so pleasant. The waiter was quite rude.

Staying in Berlin and wanted to find somewhere that served proper German food . Well look no further than the Dicke Wirtin. Tucked away in a quite posh residential street not far from the Zoo part of Berlin. Menus in both German and English and...the waitress was a real character. We both had pork schnitzel which were absolutely huge followed by what was described as fruit jelly and custard . Both meals were fab This place is a real find and a real locals place. Thanks for a wonderful experience.More

Definitely carnevour orientated, though the two owners are so friendly I'm sure they could have rustled you something up. I had in the week I ate there: pork knuckle and many other delicious meaty treats.
