My Comments on this beautiful-hidden restaurant in Berlin: Heaven to be here. Eating food at Masaledar is like eating food at home made by my Mom; it is delicious - mouth watering. I like all the dishes made of Paneer (homemade cheese) and Chicken tandoori is also my favourite. I tried Mango lassi here ufff...just mind-blowing.

I had a mango chicken curry and it is the best curry I have had in Berlin since I moved here over one year ago. We tend to avoid Indian food here because it is nothing compared with the amazing Indian food in the UK. We were looking to get a takeaway and came across the restaurant on deliveroo and... More

I usually go to Indian places in Berlin without high expectations because in the U.K. Indian food is really good and I have lived there. However this is the kind of food that you regret eating and you just want to avoid so if you are around the area please make a good decision and avoid the place

The first Indian restaurant I tried in my Berlin Trip, had heard they didnt have good ones. We a party of three had a meat course, fish and vegetarian as well as nan bread. All courses were below average and rather flat and not so tasty. The beer / sprite mixture was flat so had to return it. The waiter... More

The food was terrible, we ordered the mixed starter for two which was an unseasoned, fried, dark brown mass of mostly potato, as mains we had the malai kofta and shahi paneer both of which came in exactly the same unseasoned, un-spiced red ambiguous sauce which bore no resemblance to the description in the menu (no cashews no coconut no... Three of us ate here one evening. The service was very friendly. The washrooms were clean. The food was prompt and hot. The food was tasty. The bill was small for what we had.

Since there are not many decent Indian places in our hometown we wanted to get some good Indian food. Well it was good. Not really good, not bad either but not much more than good Indian food. The service was ok as well. I don't know other Indian places in Berlin but if you would like a sure selection this... More

Description
Undoubtedly the city’s most sophisticated Indian restaurant, Meena Kumari is nestled beneath the colourful towering buildings of the imposing Lychener Strasse. A glass frontage gives way to fresh, white walls, comfortable cream banquettes and colourful artworks – a great talking point whether you pop in for after work drinks or a lingering romantic meal. Towards the back of the restaurant a deep red enclave, almost hidden behind a huge image of the beautiful Indian actress after which the restaurant is named, provides a more intimate, dimly lit setting where couples enjoy each others company and small groups of friends gossip over wine. The unusual, Indian style dishes which populate a short and sweet menu upon which the large platters of appetisers are particularly popular for sharing.

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighbourhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
