Ate here on the way back to our hotel after 8 hours in the Jewish Museum. We were hungry and very tired and this was right at the entrance/exit to the subway. I had a hamburger, frenchfries and water for 5.90€. My husband had chicken wings and a donner brod. (Think gyro). Food was certainly served fast and was fairy... More

After a long day walking around on a cold, cold, cold Saturday in November in Berlin you would settle for anywhere to sit down and warm up. Unfortunately for us, as you get to the last few blocks of Freidrishstrasse there is almost nowhere to eat. Luckily, just before we got to the U-bahn station at the very end at... More

We were staying on Friedrichstrasse and found this at the other end to all the shops - where the locals live. Go out of Hotel Angleterre and go left to the end of the street (10 mins). Very good food and large portions. I didnt like the house wine and they changed it no problem or charge to Pino Grigio.... More

Good food, especially the Kebab, friendly service, nice ice cream, cheap drinks. Combine this lunch stop with the Jewish Museum which is a 5 min walk away, on the North East corner of the same block. Access from U6 Hallesches Tor stop, walk 50m north, or take a 20min walk south from Checkpoint Charlie. A 'new' Berlin experience, with Berlin... More

If you are close to Checkpoint Charlie and want to enjoy low priced Turkish food, then this is the right place for you, my personal favorites here include: 1. Linsensuppe ( lentil soup ) 2. Gözleme mit Kartoffeln ( Turkish Tandoor bread filled with mashed potatoes which is quite similar to Indian tandoori aloo parantha! ) 3. Various platters

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
