Walking through the city we found this restaurant and we decided to have some food. The atmosphere is great, full of people, nice decor but no one came to welcome us straight away. Really busy restaurant so it can happen but the attention for the guest isn't great. Noticed that with German Guest there is a particular touch which is... More

A local person recommended this restaurant as the best German food in Berlin. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent at a reasonable price and the beer and wine very acceptable. We would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Despite claimed to be one of the must visited restaurant for German food, it may not satisfy those with high expectation. Need to book ahead if plan to go by week end evening. But easy to get a place to go at day time.

The location of the restaurant was really good and with all the reviews here we tried it. Is is usually full so if you want to eat here would recommend booking in advance. The vibe of the place is nice but the food was just average for us. We had classic potato soup and a pork knuckles, both where average.... More

Was recommended this restaurant by different people. Fortunately for us we were ready for something to eat earlier than expected. We didn't have a booking but they squeezed us in. Whilst we ate some many people were turned away. The choice is far ranging and all reasonably priced. Germanic dishes mainly. I had roast pork with crackling, sauerkraut, salad and... More

My mum loves this place. The name is program. I however feel that it got a bit aged over the years. Not run down yet. The prices are made for tourists, a bit too high but you also pay for location (so does the operator). Food is on the heavy side, average German or better to say Berliner Style. We... More

We are from the Cincinnati area and my family and I vacation in Germany frequently. Although we usually prefer the Southern areas around Munchen and Berchtesgaden, we occasionally make it to Berlin. And when we do, Mutter Hoppe's is a mandatory stop. Although I haven't been there for about a year, my last visit was just as wonderful as the... More

Wanted to try here as reviews and menu looked good. When we arrived the Kitchen was closed at 9.30 on a Sunday evening :-( had to go elsewhere.

My wife and I went to this restaurant on 8th October. We were the second couple on the queue but the waiter gave us a table first. I did not understand why we were given the table first until I saw it. We found that the table, which had been used by two Chinese for dinner when we arrived, was... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
