The restaurant is on the bank of the Spree. It is large but is very popular, so early dining is advised. The food focuses on classic German cookery with variations on pork, dumplings and cabbage - which are far more delicious than you can imagine; but there are other dishes including a superb beef goulash. The standard of cooking is... More

Very nice spot next to the river, in the pedestrian area. Typical German style restaurant, with large portions of food, very nice traditional German dishes and very good beer (they produce their own beer). We visited on a cloudy and rainy day so we sat inside and it was crowded. Very good option in a very beautiful area.

Nice spot by the canal in the Nicolaiviertel. Friendly service. Good beers. Enjoyed the bratwurst and sauerkraut and my veggie friends had stuffed peppers. Bit chilly to sit outside but looked nice for a warmer evening.

Georgbraeu Brauhaus is situated close to the river, its a nicely decorated beer house serving some hearty German dishes. They brew their own beer and I recommend the dunker. The helpings are big and our pork schnitzel, vegetables and potatoes was no exception. The other dish we ordered was pork, sauerkraut and dumplings again equally big. Both were very tasty.... More

Great old fashioned pub with a canal side terrace which in the sun is a great stop for a beer. The menu looked good as well although we didn't eat there

Went there only for Hofbräu beers which was great. Traditional German place with old fashion music. Much fun!

A real German brauhaus with accompanying affordable good food. They serve their own brewn beers. Had the Bock beer of this season. Very nice, but heavy beer. The waitress was very friendly and explaining well about menu selection

Really nice place. Food and beer were excellent and the portion are very generous. Large outdoor area for sunny and warm days and a warm and cozy interior for those chilly ones. Would highly recommend, we visited twice during our time in Berlin.

I booked via email in advance as I had read reviews that this place can get very busy. Norbert replied in perfect english to my schoolgirl german and booked my table, confirming they did accept credit cards. We enjoyed a delicious traditional boiled pork knuckle with sauerkraut, pease pudding and potatoes. A couple of good quality beers washed it down... More

I don't usually visit restaurants in the more touristy locations, however this one was recommended by a friend, so after 15 years of visiting Berlin we decided to give it a try. It all started off so well, very friendly and efficient service and the food was delicious. Massive portions and very well priced considering the location. The sour note... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
