Stepping in at Ginette et Marcel is like going back 50 years in time. The decor is homely and cozy. On a cold day, the smells of soup and warm toasts were appealing when we entered. The food is simple yet tasty and filling, perfect for warming up at very reasonable prices. Highly recommended for simple, filling fares.

We stopped here for a quick lunch after touring Lyon. Chilly and tired, it was the perfect place to warm up, and enjoy their cheesy baked tartins and soup. They have an excellent wine selection as well. For dessert, try the lemon meringue tart - it's amazing.

Enjoyed the foie gras and onion jam on bread with a cheeky little red. Friends had the 3 cheese and pear version and the mixed charcuterie plate with beer. Not a huge serving so could happily indulge in the raspberry (framboise) tart !! The mix of sweet and tart ---- too die for. Even in winter, we enjoyed the seating... More

My wife and I have visited this super place twice during December. The first time we went at 10 00 pm having just arrived in Avignon from Marseille. We shared a copious portion of pate on toast and had a glass each of good local wine. The square on which the cafe stands was twinkling magically with Christmas lights in... More

One if the best places in Avignon. Nice staff, cozy place, good music, good prices. Try the tartines chaudes! My favourite: 3 fromage et poire. And order a salad with it, you'll need it ;) And try all of the desserts. They are all wonderful.

"Bistro à Tartines", perfect for a drink and a light meal. In France, we often eat our main meal at lunch time, not an uncommon practice but then finding some place in the evening without the full-on three or four course offerings in the evenings can be harder than one might think. Here is the answer. Located on a pretty... More

This restaurant Agee blocks from the tourism office specializes in tartains , open faced sandwiches. They have variety available but the hot cheese tartains are especially good and a vegetarian option. Ate in the plaza and a warm fall day for a delightful lunch. Recommend the chocolate mousse.

We just had a night in Avignon on a monday so not much open. This place was just around the corner from where we were staying and it just lured us in. It was warm and comfortable. Full of locals all having a fine old time. They specialise in tartines which is mostly just cheese on toast. There are hot... More

I had never been to a tariines before, but I will again! It was a warm balmy evening and we were wandering the streets of old Avignon looking for somewhere to eat, we saw this crowded place on the corner of the street with a jumble of tables and chairs with people eating and laughing. We managed to grab a... More

Just outside of the busy center of Avignon but within the walls of the city we loved this little square with it big trees and the variety of restaurants around it. Our favorite was Ginette et Marcel and its menu of tartinettes, salads and desserts. A tartinette is something like an open sandwich and this restaurant offers them with many... More
