Followed a nice walk around this neighborhood from a Paris guide. The guide highly recommended a stop at Le Temps des Cerises, calling it the hub of the neighborhood and best dining option of the area. We have been visiting Paris for 30 years. I have never had a bad experience. I have argued with acquaintances who say they had... More

If you want to visit La Butte aux Cailles to see some street art, Le Temps des Cerises is a good choice for a lunch break. The restaurant is run as a SCOP, collaborative, which is unusual for a restaurant. They service good French food. Tried the "Joues de cochons braisées" and loved it.

I love the communal aspect of this place, as it's a workers's collective, or was at the beginning. Food very good, just don't come here drunk on Corsican beer, which was my case the first time.

The food is good and hearty, the service is different because it is a cooperative, therefore it is more "equalitarian" than some people will expect, but I enjoy it and often dine here. You have to book ahead, it is often full.

We had dinner three times because the bistro is close to where we're staying. The entrées and plats are fairly ordinary but the desserts are really good. As others have said, the seating is cosy and you may end up sharing a long table. Come before 7:45 or so to get a table for 2. Friendly staff.

Fanstastic service, fair prices and delicious food on the buteaux-aux-cailles. We hv been twice during our 5 days in Paris and everything is as great as it could be!

We had a big anniversary lunch here, complete with a bottle of excellent champagne. The restaurant is run as a cooperative, and the service is good, but perhaps a little more independent than in some places - perhaps because the memory of the Commune is cherished in the area.... The food was excellent and we had a memorable meal. It's... More

This is another classic of the Buttes aux Cailles. The restaurant concept is a cooperative where every employee works on his own business. The choice of this kind of organisation is na homage to the 1871 Comune and the age of Panhard Industries and industrie workers. So the food goes along with that spirit: good old traditional like the "Bavette"... More

A tasty meal of ragout d'agneau was spoiled by the poor manners of one of the wait staff, who enjoyed mocking my French accent

Staying in Place d'Italie / Quartier Asiatique

Neighbourhood Profile
Place d'Italie / Quartier Asiatique
Far off the beaten path, this part of Paris is a forgotten gem worth exploring. Avenue d’Ivry houses Europe's largest Chinatown with great Asian supermarkets and shops, and a thrilling atmosphere around Chinese New Year. Place d’Italie impresses onlookers as soon as they set their eyes on it. Not far, around La Butte aux Cailles, the streets suddenly imitate provincial France and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported. The beauty of these streets lies in their surprises around every twist and turn.
