Thanks Tripadvisor for making me discover this place! A little off the beaten path for tourists and yet very close to lively areas (Bastille, rue de Lappe), this typical bistrot kept its original 1900's look and provides good choice of food - some also very creative. Fixed price menu is available at lunchtime but dinner is reasonably priced as well.... More

If you find yourself near Bastille, Le Bistrot du Peintre is an excellent choice for some hearty Auvergnat food, which will not cost you an arm and a leg, but be of excellent quality. The service is always friendly, tactful, and multilingual! In warmer months, the terrace is an excellent place to hang out and watch the street go by.... More

Very friendly staff, heated terasse full of young people. The food is good, the meat dish was top.I would choose a spicier chorizo and fuet and NOT store it in the fridge. Maybe I would swap it for french charcuterie as this has nothing to do with spanish restaurant.Or start with offering some kind of tapa.

Have a coffee and see the beautiful paintings and windows, and surroundings. The food was just average.

Decent food in a lively location – along with three other bistros on the same intersection. Standard fare: charcuterie plates, steak frites, a nice salade niçoise, all well made and at a reasonable price. And excellent people-watching.

The amazing Art Deco doors will be the first thing you notice. If you are lucky to find a terrace table grab it! The menu is straight forward-honest French cuisine that won't disappoint you. Seat down and enjoy the real Parisian life pass by as in a movie. Very few tourists is a big plus!

Lived in the area for many years, went to the Bistrot du Peintre a dozen times and was never disappointed, and all my friends enjoyed the fiid and service. One of the oldest bistrots, if not the oldest, in Paris, great decor, great service and awesome food.

This is not a flashy restaurant. What it is is an authentic bistro selling well-cooked, reasonably priced food to locals and tourists alike. The service is attentive, the atmosphere is relaxed and the overall experience is markedly better than other establishments charging twice the price.

I came to Paris over a year ago and ate here and I haven't really stopped thinking about it. It was filled mostly by locals, rather than tourists and the wine and food were absolutely outstanding and extremely well priced. I am literally booking another trip to Paris so I can eat the duck once again.

Friday evening, 7:00 pm. I always ask for a table in French, the waiter always answers in English. An area teaming with restaurants, I chose this because it looks like a bistrot should. Offered the choice of inside or outside and instantly provided with a menu. Selected from the specials displayed on the blackboard and a jug of reasonably priced... More
