We were greeted and seated right away. Our waiter was very nice and attentive and filleted my sole for me. My son had the chicken which was delicious, my other son had a frankfurter and it was very good. The place is very nice but a little bit pricey, the sole was 38.50.

We were met by a head waiter with a big mustache and a even more pissy attitude. He seemed to hate all customers - in particular foreigners. After taking a seat where we served by the most charming, elderly waiter. The food (snails, crabs, beef tartar) and wine recommendations was all quite quite good. The butler came around later to... Our hotel recommended this restaurant as suitable for a light informal dinner, however we were disappointed. The restaurant was extremely crowded and the tables very close together. The service was prompt and the waiter pleasant and helpful, the food (onion soup and steak) not bad but certainly not great (apart from the delicious potatoes dauphinoise). We felt it was quite... My June 25, 2015 review remains unchanged. Christmas lunch 2016 was excellent. The fois gras and salad vertes were directly on target. The chateaubrian was cooked to perfection and of high quality (supplemented with puff potatoes). A plate of scallops with mushroom risotto is still on my mind. The Cotes Rhone was excellent and very reasonably priced. The dessert, entitled... More

Cosy French brasserie pretty compacted but good service from the staff in the restaurant. Food not too bad but could be more sophisticated. Glass of wine well served and excellent fresh bread.

We'd arrived in Paris and asked our hotel for a local brasserie. and you couldn't be nearer. About 75m! The greeter was not over welcoming. in fact i was tempted to leave but did not. Our waitress was efficient but looked as if she'd been working 24 hours non stop. The menu was reduced and high priced as it was... More

My first visit was in 1991 -- it is still one of the nicest places in Paris. Great staff (most have been around for many years), good food, great vibe and value for money. The best!

We tried many restaurants while we were in Paris for 12 days. I'm sorry we left this for the last day as it was the most memorable experience. We were greeted by the maitre d' ( he seemed to be in charge) with a handshake and a very respectful greeting; as if we were regulars or old friends. There was... More

We had a wonderful night at brasserie Balzar. This was our second visit. We had a reservation and waited 10 minutes for our table. We had an excellent view of the entire room. The food was delicious, the lemon sole was outstanding as was the entrecôte. The baba rhum, and chocolate mousse were outstanding.

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighbourhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendour and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighbourhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.
