I have had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant at least five times over the past 50 (ouch) years. The first time was at the recommendation of Frommer's "Europe on $5 a Day", which suggested a late night onion soup at this restaurant which then shared the area with the famous Les Halles night meat market. The market is... More

Very good place to eat. Ideally suited for a dinner with friends or if you are looking for the best onion soup in Paris. It is also quite cheap.

Went to lunch to the pied de Cochon because I wanted to eat an andouillette and I have to say I was completely satisfied. The andouillette was outstanding, top quality and well prepared in a nice mustard sauce. Found staff to be attentive too.

On a Sunday night after 8 pm we arrived without reservations to a half empty restaurant. We waited 10 minutes to be seated, then waited over 20 minutes and no one arrived at our table to offer anything. We watched as people walked in, were seated, and immediately got served water and bread as we waited we realized this was... More

We were able to reserve a table several hours before dinner on the day by a hotel concierge. It was so crowded and had a vibrant atmosphere. Many guests ordered a fleur de mer at 140 euros for 2 persons in this season, but we didn't. For an aperitif, Kir Royal(15 euros) was so good. A waiter brought a glass... More

I don t recommend this place. Last time I went there was maybe 3 years ago and it was already not something to remember. We were in the area so I decided to give it another try. Service and food quality have gotten worst. And it is very very expensive.

Legendary and greatly convenient restaurant open 24/7 with quick access from Les Halles RER. Service is very friendly, if a bit tacky when there is a birthday or other celebration as they put on their pig nose and associated sounds--it's a pork specialty restaurant and that's their gimmick! We have returned through the years especially for their really good soupe... More

This is a 24/7 famous restaurant in Paris in the Les Halle's district. You must taste the French Onion soup for yourself. It is known as the best in all of Paris, and possibly France, if not the world.

Description
The ovens at Au Pied de Cochon were fired up in 1946 and they have never been turned off since. Au Pied de Cochon is a Paris institution, very near the Centre Pompidou, on your way from shopping the first arrondissement to the sightseeing the Marais. It is decorated with a profusion of Art Nouveau stylistic touches, like mirrors, fantastic chandeliers, paintings of lovely ladies. There is also an enticing terrace, and, as it's open 24/7, you can come in anytime for a meal and to watch the world go by. Menu is French. Try starter of oysters of several types and sizes, house special main course of pig's trotter stuffed with duck liver and pudding of babas au rhum.

Staying in Les Halles

Neighbourhood Profile
Les Halles
Historically the central iron-clad market of Paris, Les Halles has evolved architecturally since then but the pulsating energy has stayed the same. Now it houses the main shopping mall, which nestles underground surrounded by fast-food take-aways and international restaurants coupled with beautiful churches and the old commodity exchange. Parallel to it are the high-street stores of Rue de Rivoli and just parallel to that the Seine. The area bustles with faces from all continents and all ages at all times of the day. If enjoying high-street shopping with easy access to fast eateries and lively bars is on your agenda, this is the place to go.
