As someone who can down oysters like, well oysters, I had my eye on the oyster bar that we had seen the day before whilst exploring the area of Paris where a hotel was. We looked in at the vast array of oysters and saw a small, very small modern place. In we went to be met by the nicest... More

This tiny place has around 10 seats. Would not even call it a restaurant... But it's a must-visit when in Paris. The oysters are spectacular- not less - and the service is as good as it can be. You will leave satisfied, happy and knowledgable - as the great waiter makes sure to teach you about oysters while serving them

What a great little restaurant - only big enough for a few tables, but the owner and his staff make you feel so welcomed! The oysters were huge, and an explanation of its origin and taste proved to be an unforgettable experience. We had a bottle of Champaign as we enjoyed the experience - that only the smallest of venues... More

My sister and I had been past this oyster bar several times over the course of a few days as it is very near where we were staying, but the timing didn't seem right to drop in until one evening at about 6.00. We stopped in for a glass of champagne and a small sampling of oysters. The charming proprietor... More

I love oysters. In the sates I have a dozen at least once a week. This place was a real find in Paris. One of my first experiences with oysters in the old world and their grading system rather than using the place of origin. The owner is a lovely gentleman with a deep knowledge of his family's business who... More

Small place but pure gem. Had oysters - went around France based on recommendation. Started from south of France which was salty and went up north - meaning it got sweeter. Our waiter suggested we have the oysters without any topping (no lemon, no Tabasco etc.) And OMG, it was not needed. So fresh and so good. Their fish soup,... More

We happened on Opium while walking around awaiting a dinner reservation. There was a small table open in front and some beautiful oysters and shellfish on ice in the window so we decided to stop for a quick appetizer. It is a tiny place which seats maybe 8-10. The oysters were fresh and amazing, but the owner was the best... More

The owner has it since 35 years and he can advice you about everything on oysters. Fresh, beautiful, tasty, personal. That's what you want.

We stopped into Opium on our last evening in Paris since we had been staying on rue de Buce and had walked by many times. The evening was incredible! Go here if you love oysters and especially if you love the White Pearl oysters farmed off of Utah Beach in Normandy - they are simply the best! We started with... More

Staying in Odeon / Saint-Michel

Neighbourhood Profile
Odeon / Saint-Michel
As the bustling center of entertainment for the residents of the Rive Gauche, the activity at Odéon never stops. Boulevards are lined with traditional cafes, restaurants, and boutique cinemas. The streets surrounding the fountain at Saint-Michel provide eateries from around the world. Lively bars are just next door and the prototypical terraced French brasserie is on every corner. The setting for this area is second to none; the Haussmann-style boulevards are contrasted by monumental architecture and overshadowed by the iconic Notre Dame, all within a moment’s walk from the Seine. This neighbourhood's world-famous bookshops, cafés, and streets will not fail to impress you.
