We had a wonderful lunch at the foot of the steps on a beautiful sunny afternoon. It was capped off with someone playing la vie en rose by the steps. 😀

After hitting a lot of tourist restaurants and cafes, we found, just below Sacre Coeur in Montemarte, Paris, a lovely little restaurant that was homey, pleasant and not a rip off. The meal was excellent and the service was with a smile and a friendly chat. Paintings of cats and scenes on the wall. Looked old world but not in... More

Was visiting Paris with friends and had lunch here while sightseeing the Pigalle area. Restaurant has a tradition facade and interior, probably made appeal to the modern tourist but it does it very well. Won't go through all the courses the four of us had, suffice it to say they were all well cooked and tasty. I was particularly pleased... More

This offered good value and cozy decor with French posters plastered all over the walls and red and white tablecloths. It's small with the tables packed together and it was full when I went with a mix of French and tourists. Onion soup was good, walnut salad and the chocolate mouse were fine as well, not outstanding, but they state... More

I really love this small cosy restaurant in Mont-Martre! I eat there every time I visit Paris. The onion soup is Yummy with the "steak au poivre" that come with a dessert ( penna cotta or crème brulée) at very good price. (14€ only for the menu! ) I would definetely recommend!

It's a quaint restaurant, rather pretty with tablecloths of red and white squares, poster covered walls from the 1950s, 60s. Great location - you stumble upon it as soon as you step down from Sacre Coeur. However, everything we ordered tasted of saw dust. Spaghetti bolognaise tasted old and dry. Fondue, came with meat, when I esp. requested for a... More

The food chez Marie is a mixture of typical French dishes. However it seems that most of them are not freshly prepared. I am not a big foodie, but I can recognise the taste of soup fish out of a tin (entrée). Duck for the main was tender but seemed to be cooked much earlier as well. Desert - crème... More

Staying in Montmartre

Neighbourhood Profile
Montmartre
Montmartre is a bustling mix of cultures, colours, and styles which changes from one street to another. Ride the funicular (or, for a real workout, climb the steps) to the sublime Sacré-Coeur (Basilica of the Sacred Heart) with its inspiring view of the city. The church is surrounded by provincial streets and piano bars where tourists, artists, and street entertainers thrive. At the foot of the hill, Boulevard de Clichy features shops not intended for young audiences, while residences are scattered to the north and east. The diverse population includes a large part from the Arab-speaking world, Africa, and Turkey. It’s a corner of Paris full of life and dynamism with charms that can’t be found anywhere else.
