Visited here 30 years ago so returned to see what has changed. Not a lot - not as homely but thats life. Great food good drinks in a very busy but very different square and area. Much more commercialized now which is sad. The place...More

We were in the area on a busy Sunday and looking for a late lunch. The hostess swept us to the garden area - and it was a perfect escape from the hustle. We had a very leisurely lunch - the salad was perfect with...More

It has become our tradition to stop here for a mid-afternoon respite. Being located directly across from the artist's square, it's the perfect place to people watch.k The food is traditional French fare and is ample - we always share a plate. We also enjoy...More

Had a great dinner just before visiting Sacre Coeur. Atmosphere was very relaxed but professional. Our meal was enhanced by our server, Sean. He was the best! Expert service and he shared some wonderful stories. Absolutely recommend him and the restaurant.

Whenever we go to Paris, we always seem to land up at La Mere Catherine! The food is excellent and so is the service. The lack of formality and pretension is refreshing. The prices are reasonable and after eating it is possible to take a...More

I ordered chicken and it was very good. How ever the service was not that good. The restaurant was not very busy, but the waiter forgot my desert, and we had to wait for a very long time to pay the bill.

It was a very good lunch experience. The staff was efficient, professional and friendly. The salads were very good, particularly the goat cheese salad. Note: the chicken on the chicken Caesar salad was fried, hence the 4 vs 5 star rating. We weren't rushed which,...More

We enjoyed a very nice lunch after touring the area. Onion soup to start (while devouring our first bottle of wonderful wine) was delicious. Escargot and baguettes hit the spot. Waiter was great.

Montmartre is a bustling mix of cultures, colours, and
styles which changes from one street to another. Ride
the funicular (or, for a real workout, climb the

Sacred Heart) with its inspiring view of the city. The
church is surrounded by provincial streets and piano

Description
One of Paris' most historic restaurants, founded in 1793 by Catherine Lemoine, the decor of Chez la Mere Catherine respects its past, retaining features such as traditional antiques, chairs and a bar. Spread throughout large rustic rooms, this is the original 'bistro' overlooking the city, with a peaceful garden and a blooming flowery terrace for wonderful summer dining. Although the menu has certainly changed over the years to meet the wishes of the clientele, the changes are not so radical as to stray from the typical cuisine of France. Offerings on the menu include Honey Confit of Suckling Pig, Ginger Grilled Frog's Legs and Seabream with Mango Coulis, amongst other delights. Entertaining you with performances of yesteryear, cabaret singers put on a show every night, whilst you enjoy your dinner in the romantic atmosphere of the village of Montmarte.
