We have eaten here on more than one occasion and it is perfectly situated, if you are staying at Hostellerie Gargantua. The patron is hospitable and welcoming and the service is efficient. As an aperitif the 'aperitif maison' is recommended. Our starters were okay and the lamb was good, as was the goat's cheese and the chocolate mousse. Unfortunately the... More

Dear Madam, Dear Sir, Thank you very much for comment. Why didn't you say anything ? Of course for your "cockerel" ( different than a chicken ), I would have changed your main course during your meal. Your comment was read by the chef which will bring the necessary modifications. Best regards, Olivier. More

We chose this restaurant for it's peaceful setting and the interesting choices on the menu. It was a Mondaynight and a lot of restaurants are closed although "The Maison Rouge" down the old was open we preferred this menu. We chose from the set menu and I had local pork rillettes with honey and a small salad garnish which was... More

Dear Madam, Dear Sir, Thank you very much for comment about our restaurant. This one was read by all of the team. I'm sincerily sorry for the problem with the drain, if you said it, I proposed you an other table of course. We are reassured that our beef stew ( who is not a "boeuf bourguignon" ) pleased your... We chose this restaurant because the menu looked like there was plenty of choice and the setting was very pretty. Got off to a good start. Waiter (owner?) was pleasant and we ordered a lovely bottle of rose from the Tours area. My husband ordered an entree of pork confit with honey and it was very good. Then things started... More

Proprietor was very amiable, good sense of humor and good english. We had beef casserole which was full of flavor and very tender, and grilled Cockrell, both good. Lovely quiet setting.

Stopped for Sunday lunch as menu looked fine. Treated ourselves to Couly-Dutheil Les Chateaux Chinon 2015. Two great mains in pleasant outside setting and Mouse au chocolat maison and Ile flottante for desserts. Value for money (english spoken if required)

There aren't many places open on a Monday evening in April but this restaurant was. It was busy but not full. Good food and wine, pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. The choices were interesting and the price very reasonable. I have no idea what the hotel is like but couldn't write a restaurant review because I couldn't find it.

We tried the 3 course meal of the day at Le Gandoyau and where more than satisfied for the just under 20 eu each. The features of my meal where the local pork twice cooked in confit and then pan fried with honey, and local river pike in a pie with white butter sauce. My wife enjoyed the lamb and... More

I have to admit, I don't really like eating at French restaurants, they are often over priced, service can be a bit hit and miss and food average! Sorry that's what I generally find! BUT on Saturday 6th June, I dinned at this restaurant with my husband and really enjoyed it! Food was good, service was great and the bill... More

We chanced upon Le Gandoyau while strolling through the old section of Chinon. The evening was warm so we enjoyed a relaxed and unhurried meal on the terrace. The food was tasty and unique and a good value for the price. Our server (owner?) was helpful in explaining the menu to us, and very kindly encouraged our daughters in their... More

For those who like friendly, comfortable places to eat with great value and excellent food, this is the very best in Chinon. Expect a memorable meal and that is just what you get, Cooked to perfection and served as if to friends.
