Well… what should you say about a place that is epic in its commitment to seafood. We booked ahead two dinners (one review has to do) and the food was expected and beyond. We did NOT go for the crusties but stayed with the plat...fish selection which in our opinion was Devine. Pictures say more than words.More

Definitely one of the best fish restaurants I've been to. Carnac is a pretty little town by the sea. The main feature is the hearth in which there is the grill. They is more than one room but we were in the room with the...grill so we could watch the food cooking. We ate complementary winkles whilst were waited for our starters. My starter was sardine ceviche salad, which was delicious. We shared a Barbue (white fish) for main course, beautifully fresh and perfectly cooked on the grill. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and ensured we enjoyed our meal. Not the cheapest fish restaurant I've been to but certainly one of the best and very good value for money.More

It is a magnificent place ... super staff, quick and with humor. The grill madter did an excellent job with the fresh lobster. Timing was good and the wine superb! I share this secret because it is worth it!

This restaurant is a fantastically good place to eat. Prices for many fish and the blue lobsters are by weight. ( €/100g), so certain dishes will cost a bit. These plates are worth every euro. My wife & I are lobster & langoustine fans. The...blue lobsters here are perfectly cooked over an open charcoal grill. Served with butter and a béarnaise like sauce, they were among the best I've ever had. The entrees were equally great, local oysters that were so fresh, and other local seafood that tasted like it had just been caught. Now for the second reason this place is so good; the people. Always having good senses of humor, caring about their work, and your food and drink. A fun and at the same time a seriously good place to eat.More

There are too few restaurants these days where the staff is enjoying themselves as much as the guests. When that happens everyone benefits! The greeting at the front door is warm and genuine. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed. But even more important, the fish...and shellfish are excellent. It is a special treat to watch your meal being cooked in the fireplace. It is reassuring to be across the road from local oyster beds. One trusts that the fish and shellfish are fresh. We started with half a dozen local oysters each, and then selected skewered scallops and red mullet for our main courses. Both were splendid. The sauces and side garnishes were fine if not extraordinary. The house made "Gazpacho" of Strawberries was recommended by our waiter and did not disappoint. This is a mellow and reliable place we won't forget. Some of the choices could be a little expensive, but that is the reality of the fish/shellfish market these days.More

When I start reading reviews with price not well clear, I somehow got scared. Ultimately, everything is well explained when you place your order, and although I've not ordered anything like the lobster whose price goes by weight, I'm reasonably confident the net weight prior...cooking would have been told. That said, this was a superb experience, certainly not cheap, but worth every single cent. The fish was super fresh, well cooked and the flavour given by a charcoal grill cooking is something remarkable. Everything, from the interior to the presentation of dishes, is something that makes this fish restaurant a real experience. Highly suggested the reservation, and, if you don't mind eating early, coming for the first service at 7:30 pm. A note for the owner: though the quality was good, the overall price of desserts is in excess of 2.5 euros each and langoustines salad by 3. Alcohol cost had to be reviewed because I felt the small bottle of wine (can't remember which) 22 euro a bit excessive.More

Last went here 20 years ago and loved the grilled food then. Now it is a new chef but he has been trained by the master. Seafood is deliciously fresh. Steak wonderful. Atmosphere lovely and welcoming on a wet night. Enjoy! Don’t miss.

We ate at this restaurant this evening. I had read the reviews and I'm so pleased that i ignored the very cruel recent review. From the moment we stepped in to the place, we were made to feel welcome even though our French is very...limited. We were seated right next to the fire which was obviously the warmest seat in the house but also the most interesting. We chose Turbot for 2 and watched the chef cook it on the open fire right next to us along with the many other dishes that were ordered as the restaurant was full. Ok it's not cheap but it's not McDonalds either! You are paying for the experience, the fresh and tasty, perfectly cooked fish, steak etc. If you want cheap run of the mill food, don't come here - simples! The chef was amazing and the staff very polite and attentive. Oh and the tiramisu was amazing. We'll be back.More

This place is the den of a thief. A guy who seemed to be the owner seated us and then came back to take our order. We said we wanted a grilled fish. He asked us whether we wanted a "big fish" or a "small...fish". We said we wanted a fish that was big enough for my wife and I - with a normal appetite. We asked how much the fish was and he showed us the price on the menu, which was by weight. We estimated that a suitable size fish would cost us around 50 - 60 Euros - not cheap, but ok for a nicely prepared dish. When the dishes came, they were not bad. Reasonable portions, well grilled and fresh. Good but unexciting vegetables. Nothing extravagant, but a good quality meal. What was extravagant was the bill. My lord. 98 Euros for the fish! Close to 2x what we were expecting. With one of the cheaper bottles of white wine and two coffees, our meal was 160 Euro. There was no way to know how much we were going to be charged before the bill came. It is impossible that a grilled fish should be sold for almost 100 Euro. This place is a total rip off. The owner has set up the pricing to be a complete scam. Anybody who goes to this restaurant should know they will get robbed. If that is what you want, fine.More

We were delighted to come back to Le Calypso and to discover that our charming waiter of previous visits is now le patron. Everything is just how a seaside village French restaurant should be. Absolutely perfect.
