This place took our breath away. When we arrived we didn't have the table book, but still starving and looking for a good supper. The restaurant was almost empty. The bartender told us that we can stay. So we ordered and start waiting. Restaurant started quickly became full. All locals. The drinks arrived, definitely try local wine. And the the... More

This restaurant has a limited menu but everything was very good. Starters of foie gras and salmon equally good. Main courses of cod and beef also very good with fresh vegetables as accompaniment. Dessert of fresh fruit delicious. Friendly and efficient service. Local wine passable. Pleasant surroundings with low background noise. Clean Japanese style facilities.

We arrived to the restaurant, where we were greeted by a nice humble guy, that let us choose the table from what was available. He was professional and gave precise explanations about the dishes and wine. The atmosphere and the place was great, the food and the taste was perfect. Highly recommend , Very good value for money. we had for... More

They say you have to queue for ages but we were in within 20 mins. they must have about 200 covers and they can flip them in about 75mins. therefore the food is always hot and fresh. Small menu = Steak and French Fries (hand made) in a very nice Bordelaise sauce, when you have finished they then come round... More

Not many restaurants open on Sunday evenings in Bordeaux, at least not in the winter. L'Encoche is praiseworthy therefore just for opening. Added to that was a great meal, served by a very helpful and friendly waiter who patiently interpreted items from the menu into English and who recommended an excellent wine (Graves). If you get the chance try the... More

Attractive stone walls, nicely lit. The menu is a bit more original than the three course for 15-20€ which seems to be everywhere. Well worth paying a few more euros per head for this treat. The food was well cooked and attractively presented, service attentive. Plus point also is the fact that it is open on a Sunday night when... More

The restaurant is beautiful, candles and stone walls. We visited on a Sunday and there was just one waiter who did a great job at keeping up. The service was good and never felt forgotten. The starters we had were lovely but the steak we had to share for main was very fatty, it hadn't been trimmed, this might just... More

We came here at the recommendation of our wine country guide. It was an excellent recommendation. The owner is super nice and down to earth and since it was our first dinner in France, he took his time explaining the different meals, apperetifs, etc. We had the foie gras and a puff pastry thing for appetizer; both were excellent. Then... More

Loved the restaurant - great feel to it. Excellent food, service was spot on and is a place where you could enjoy dinner and have a conversation and not feel like you have to yell like in many restaurants.
