Very friendly waiter/owner who made us feel welcome. The open fire is lovely and the chance to physically go and choose your wine a novelty. The starters were very large which was great as I like my food. I had pate which was lovely, my girlfriend had mussels. We both went for steaks as a main, the chips were very... More

There are so many restaurants in Rue San Remi its a matter of looking and tripadvisor reviews and particularly the menus This restaurant is the type of place I want to eat in - lots of old style decoration / busy with locals and a good varied menu at a reasonable price Ihad the 19.90menu with mussels to start and... The locals choose it. Says it all. Go to Gordon Ramsays brasserie and pay 150 euros for 2. Then you'll appreciate the much better food and atmosphere of La Cheminee for less than half the price. Good Foie Gras and excellent duck. Followed up this visit by going again the next day. Very friendly service.

Had a foie gras (controversial some might say) it was good and a very generous serving. Then had a steak and fries which again was not too bad. A bit too greasy which I guess brings the flavour but felt I left half of it on the plate. I guess the fun bit is that you get to choose your... More

The staff were attentive and were helpful with translating the menu. It had a good ambience and seemed pretty busy. We also liked the "self serve" wine where you can have a look at all the bottles before picking one for the table. Unfortunately the food was very poor. The mussels I had for my starter were grey and dry.... More

Tried this for an early dinner but tourist food, uninspiring and the chocolate fondue was definitely microwaved, wouldn't return.

On a busy Friday night the Cheminee Royale certainly delivered the goods with some nice French cooking and an interesting method of choosing your wine - selecting it directly from a cupboard as opposed to off a carte des vins. I enjoyed escargots and confit duck leg. Well worth a return visit.

Having just arrived in Bordeaux in a thunderstorm and torrential rain we bobbed in here from our hotel. Service was swift and friendly. Our food was excellent, the wine good and the price was very reasonable. We enjoyed our visit and may return

Swamped with choice we chose this restaurant and were not disappointed. The staff were excellent and the lamb chops cooked perfectly. Puddings were great too. Almost went back again the second night.

We waited over 30 minutes between our starters being cleared and our main course arriving. When it did arrive my duck and beef were both undercooked (I like my meat rare) and tough. My husband's salmon was over cooked. There was no apology for the delay. Starters and dessert were fine but involved little more than putting things in a... More
