We had previously visited the French when Simon Rogan was the chef and this was our first time back since Adam Reid has taken over as chef. We had heard good things and were not disappointed. The food was excellent and the service equalled it....More

Wow what a turn round! The staff are as good as ever, the ambience is better, the food is sublime! The modifications to the restaurant generally help, the seating plan needs looking at sitting (almost) in the doorway was not the best. But any way...More

A richly ornamented room in the Midland hotel was painted in various shades of grey. Added were so-called chandeliers of very doubtful style, and a carpet depicting oak panels. Add piped pop music in generous volume, and modernist oriented staff. Food from good and not...More

This was my second visit and I enjoyed this occasion more due the subtle changes Adam Reid has made since taking over full responsibility of the restaurant. Whilst the dining room has always been impressive the changes of tables and alternative music make it a...More

We'd found the booking very accommodating. Sadly the whole actual experience didn't live up to this. Some of the food and wine combinations were wonderful and the service was tremendous! It would have benefitted from being a little more customer led in our view. We...More

My wife took me to the French for my birthday. It was a weeknight and so it wasn't exactly heaving, unsurprisingly! We started with a couple of cocktails which were decent, if not spectacular. We decided to order the 9 course tasting menu, but as...More

Expensive when you compare them with your local pub! They are commensurate with the price of the meal (wine that is). We chose one of the lower end red wines, a red from around the slopes of Mount Etna, it was extremely good... More
I have bought a birthday card from the restaurant to spend on a meal for my sister's birthday. This year she was diagnosed with grade 3 aggressive Breast Cancer. I want to book a table for her but I concerned regarding cancellation charges incase she is sick from her chemo. She is not able to always plan ahead as the treatment plan changes.
