We both ordered lamb shanks in the pub/bar. When the lamb shanks arrived we both eased half the shank off the bone to eat, only to find that they were stone cold ! No doubt pre-cooked for the Easter Monday Race Day the day before - and the chef had attempted to heat them up by adding some warm gravy.... More

We popped in here Bank Holiday Monday, it has a lovely cosy feel in the pub/dining part with a few tables which quickly filled up but I am led to believe they have a bigger dining area which they later opened up for several large parties turning up without reservations. The food is fantastic and the portions huge, we had... More

A popular Dinner venue and In the evening we were there the restaurant was fully booked, a good indication of it's reputation for providing good quality food and service. We were very happy with the quality of our order and service was bright and cheerful. We would visit again.

Visited this pub on Mothers day night which was a Sunday so apart from the normal food choices we also had about 4 different roasts to choose from. The food was good plus delicious choice of deserts. Dogs were welcome in the bar will definitely visit again.

We stayed at another B&B who recommended this pub. Excellent choice. French onion soup was special. The beef dishes come from their family farm. Massive dinner entrees, you won't leave hungry or disappointed.

This restaurant is really very good Eating. The stilton pie is incredible. Staff is knowledgeable , warm, courteous, not unctuous. A leisurely meal is to be enjoyed.

Requested (specifically) space for adults + kids. On arrival, the rude waitress/'manager' appeared flustered that we had arrived. She then went on to contest the conversation we had had on booking, before 1) apologising to other patrons for the 12 of us adults with kids turning up, and 2) deciding it was a great idea to push sleeping kids in... Greeted in a friendly way on arrival, then sat down to a most enjoyable meal. Our main courses (steak stilton and ale pie // cod ) were copious, very tasty and beautifully presented on the plate. As indeed were our first courses (prawns in filo // deep fried brie). We had no room for a third course. All the time... More

Friday night we ventured in had a couple of beers. Nice bar but not much atmosphere given it was a Friday night we would have expected it to be busier. People were eating and the food looked fine but we did not stop. We went to the Eight Bells round the corner on a recommendation.
