About
There has been a pub on the site of Austies since the 17th century. It is a seafaring pub with plenty of memorabilia and maritime features. Have a drink at the Captain's table or sit and look out onto Memory Harbour. It has a large outdoor beer garden with views out to the sea and across to Coney and Oyster Islands. Austies Kitchen is ideal for casual dining. In The ‘Old Bar’ your family dog will be made feel very welcome.

Booked Austies 1 week in advance to be sure of getting a reservation while visiting Rosses Point Wasn't disappointed, food and service tops. Prices very reasonable and staff coping very well with current restrictions. Will call again

Have made Austies part of any visit we make around Sligo. Had made a reservation for several weeks because this place is always busy. The social distancing was great and we received a great table when we arrived. I guess it is because of the restrictions the menu was more limited that usual but it certainly didn't make much difference because as always the food was very tasty and the service was also top notch. Keep it us Austies and hopefully we will be back.

We arrived and were told there could be a 30minute wait for a table anywhere so we got a drink in the lovely traditional pub. Despite being under a lot of pressure in the Saturday august sun the host ensured that we were next in the list for a table and promptly got us and brought us to an excellent table beside the sea. The waitress was excellent and has a great eye for detail; fresh water, offering drinks, recommendations on the menu so thank you for looking after us. 5 people on 2 courses plus drinks came in at 128 euro which is very reasonable (up your prices because the people will pay!) Great atmosphere and vibe, tasty hot food and cold pints was a real highlight of our trip to rosses point. We will certainly return!

My wife & I have dined twice in Austie’s in the last week. Brilliant location overlooking Oyster Island, try for a window seat or better again the front beer garden if the weather is good. Tables all very well spaced out & screens in place at the bar, we felt it was a very safe & enjoyable dining experience. Sea Bass special with fruity salsa was excellent but so too was the traditional fish & chips which were light & fluffy in a beer batter. Sticky wings & mushrooms great starters too. Also really enjoyed a couple of Pints of local Lough Gill’s New England Session IPA on draught which was delicious. Great to see Austie’s giving fellow local businesses tap space, that in itself would attract me back! Lorna & her young team are working very hard in difficult circumstances to deliver great food & service- recommended!

Ate in Austies one night last week. After reading all the great reviews i was slightly disappointed. The restaurant was extremely busy and alot of people seemed to have come in at the one time. We had a table booked so got seated very quickly. I had to ask the server about the specials that were on that day. We ordered a bottle of wine and it is always disappointing when a bottle of wine is delivered to your table and the server doesn't even open the bottle for you. The food was average, prawn cocktail started was good but the mains of burger and chicken were just standard. I probably will give it another try if in Rosses Point to see if it was just a bad night.

We have been camping in Rosses Point for 2 weeks and have eaten at Austies twice and enjoyed both visits. We loved the Fish ‘n Chips and chicken wings - more than enough in one starter portion for two! We also got 4 fabulous take out pizzas after a long day walking and we devoured every crumb!! The Metalman with goats cheese was delicious!! Thanks to Lorna and all the staff for making us very welcome at an unusual & challenging time for restaurants. Our waiter Sháuna was efficient & very friendly. Looking forward to our next visit to Rosses Point and more delicious wings & a few Cutback IPA’s!!

As we entered the establishment we were met with what I could tell as being somewhat confused and very unsure members of staff on what to do when diners arrive at their door as multiple waitresses pass us at the front door for several minutes without greeting us or wanting to bring us to our table at what was a rather not very busy period at the restaurant. Eventually we were directed to our table that was presented and felt like eating at a kitchen table. Now I understand it is maybe a rustic type of decorative choice but it felt very random and selective as other tables surrounding us were very nicely decorated with much more modern and equipped tables. The menus felt rather cheap as well by just being a piece of paper that was a bit flimsy. I ordered the fish and chips. Which I can compliment the chips on for having a good amount as well as being well cooked and salted and well tasting. A thought the fish was much darker than usual fish as well as being mushy inside rather than fresh fish normally displaying a flakey like appearance when cut into. This led me to believe that the fish was precooked or recooked for the meal which is why it was darker and mushy which for the price of which we paid was very disappointing and overpriced. I don’t believe I will be bringing my business here again

Half way through our drinks and we wanted to order food. I asked a guy at the bar if we could take it away, he said no problem and gave me a menu. Came back to the bar to order and what I assume was the Manager asked if I was OK. I said I wanted to order food to takeaway and she said no, the kitchen was too busy. I said the bar man told me it would be fine (what difference would it make if we sat in and ate, or took it away?). She said she would go and ask the kitchen. Meanwhile people walked in and were seated for food no bother, kitchen wasn't too busy for them? I stood for 10 minutes as she walked past me 4 times, completely ignoring me. Not an acknowledgement or reassurance that she would be right with me, that she hadn't forgot about me. The bar man looked abit embarrassed at her complete disregard for me so when she walked past a 5th time he stopped her and asked if I was able to takeaway or not, she leaned over to me with utter anger and hissed 'Can't you see I am busy?'. I was completely embarrassed, shocked and nearly teared up to be honest. I walked back outside to finish my drink. She returned 5mins later and, with no apology, asked me what I wanted and the kitchen would 'do their best to fast track it'. She was so hostile and rude. I politely declined with a no thank you, it's fine. Never in all my years dining out have I been spoken to like that or made to feel like a nuisance. As a paying customer, I should have been treated with respect no matter how busy or stressed out she was. Unprofessional, rude, and a complete stain on an otherwise friendly and nice establishment.

Good location, outside dining available, booking accommodated at short notice, restaurant manager knew her stuff & managed well considering huge demand, as phone extremely busy, in additionto takeawayservice. We were located next to cash desk...very busy area. Was okay for family dinner, but not ideal for couples romantic dinner. Food absolutely delicious. Fish n chips was fab...such light batter. Very pleasant staff. Just a suggestion, could do with table cloths for evening dining. Reasonably priced. Would have loved to try the chowder, but maybe on another day. Stuffed!

We were looking forward to a nice seafood meal in Austies but were disappointed to find that they only serve food at weekends. Their website/facebook page does not make this clear . We went just for a drink and liked the atmosphere of this old pub . Please note that if you go to Rosses Point mid week January the big hotel is the only place open to have food .

Visited Austies during the week arrived without a booking with 4 adults and 8 children. Manager explained they were very busy and couldn’t guarantee a table for us. We decided to wait and have a drink in the bar squeezing 8 kids into a booth. Manager came in few minutes later and said she had a table for the kids if we wanted to feed them first, we were delighted as the kids were hungry, thankfully a table beside them became free for us adults. The food was fab and I have to say the staff and manager went above and beyond for us we were absolutely delighted. Couldn’t recommend enough. The hospitality sector is under severe pressure in these times with covid very much at the forefront along with staff shortages, but hats off to the Austies staff they really looked after us. Will be recommending and will definitely revisit when there again

We visited as a family today. We were greeted by a young member of staff as we enquired about eating outside or takeaway - the waitress asked a colleague which seemed to have authority as either an owner or manager who was extremely rude. She complained to us that she has to look after the 40 people already seated, she has only one chef on and she would have no time to cater for us outside or takeaway option. The restaurant appeared to have approx. 15 people inside. There were about 6 outdoor tables available. The reason we wanted to sit outside or get a takeaway was due to a family members disability. We left and explained we would find somewhere else. This women was a rude individual and would not entice anyone to return with her attitude. We felt like we had inconvenienced her asking for a table or takeway menu - unhelpful and stand-offish. Bad bad business.

The atmosphere, the views and the service were fantastic. The salmon I had (specials of the day) was cooked to perfection but the bed of baby potatoes arrived completely shrivelled up oily and lukewarm. If they'd simply boiled the potatoes the meal would have been perfect. The apple crumble was the tastiest I've ever had. All in all will definitely return.

A very friendly and personable experience at Austies. They let us eat with our dog in the bar which was much appreciated (apparently this is only possible when the bar and restaurant capacity allows). Good quality food and very generous portions. Would go back!

We visited as a family with three generations in the early evening sunshine. Unfortunately we were waiting over 45 minutes for our main courses. When I mentioned this to a staff member, it did not appear to be received well. As we were waiting so long, a member of our family became quite cold and we asked to be moved inside, which again, did not appear to be received so well. Another table sitting outside appeared to ask to move inside after us and appeared to be facilitated immediately. When we were just about to move inside, our food came out, and once again when I explained it to another staff member, they made a comment that I wouldn't expect. My meal was disappointing too - a not very flavoursome fish pie.
