Very nice japanese food and drink. Not to mention, in my opinion the nicest coffee in all of Galway. If you like coffee then the particular kind of coffee they do at this japanese cafe ('Sumiyaki Coffee' is what its called) is totally what you want. They also do very nice japanese teas as well (I recommend the Hoji-cha tea,... More

Visited for lunch. Ordered the most expensive lunch which was the beef special which was priced at €16.50. Barely any meat in the dish. My companion who ordered the same dish felt the same. Very strange. Don't know what chef/management are thinking pricing the dish at 16.50. Felt hard done by. Waiter was helpful and friendly however and restaurant situated... More

Started really well with some lovely Maki sushi rolls but that was as good as it got. Two chicken dishes off the tapas style menu were completely inedible because of the amount of chicken fat and fatty chicken skin. Spent all of last night hugging the toilet bowl, sickening, will never be going back. American waitress unhelpful and didnt seem... More

I came here so many times for lunch and it's always perfect. From the restaurant itself, that is tiny and really cosy, where you can relax and enjoy your meal, to the food.. delicious, well cooked and so tasty! The fish is so fresh, directly from the market and the chicken.. I must say it's the best I ever eat.... More

It seems anyone can make good sushi but serving real Japanese food does not happen often if ever. With this small and absolutely lovely exception. I've been to Japan, I ate their food so I know. The miso soup transported my tastebuds and my mind back to Japan. I ate fantastic tempura and when I think about it I want... More

I have been dining in Kappa Ya since the day it opened. The food is out of this world, and is now a default lunchtime treat for the whole family. Each dish is cooked to order, so is as fresh as fresh can be

We were looking for a restaurant in Galway on a saturday night. Everything was completely full, apart from this beautiful restaurant. We still don't understand why there were empty tables. The food was very good and affordable. We both had the chicken teriyaki, which we can definitely recommend. We had spent the whole summer in Japan and we can definitely... More

Hi Lucia, Thank you for your lovely comment. We are happy in being able to her that you enjoyed your dinner with us. The restraint is actually little known, being honest... Please bring your friends next time and probably better making a reservation as we are the small restaurant that easily get full especially weekends ! More

Kappa Ya Japanese restaurant in Middle Street is a gem. Great food, great service and a nice wine list. Enjoy!

Hi A-Reel, I'm glad you have found our wine list ! There aren't many ranges, but they are all selected by the chef to go with our food. Looking forward to seeing you next time again ! More

Food is ok - I had the Teriyaki Salmon with rice, miso soup and 3 starters selected by the chef. It's ok - worth a try, but not memorable. Staff are lovely, service was very good. I guess I was expecting more given the reviews.

Thank you for your comment, RISLV. That is a shame that you didn't fully enjoy the dinner you had. Sometimes special course dinner event is held at the restaurant. I guess it would be more memorable (hopefully!). More
