We visited on Friday Feb 21st. We were a group of 3. The table was very tight for 3 people, as it was the same as the 2 tables, so it felt a bit like a postage stamp. Things were very slow to start. Disappointingly slow. We were waiting 20 mins for the water we ordered. Our drinks order came eventually and was all mixed up and incorrect. There were 2 choices on the menu for our Vegan guest (A big part of why we chose the Green Hen) Sadly the selected Spring Rolls were not available. At this point I was seriously considering quickly re locating up the street to Fallon & Byrne , to be honest. We decided to persevere and the food was good . For main I had the Steak which was perfectly cooked and the sides were good too. Linda had the Monk Fish which was a good size portion and well executed. Our daughter had the Squash main course and was delighted with it. It was very well presented and tasty and cooked well, without being over cooked. It was well received. Our overall experience was good food but a tiny table and bad service at the start which only improved when I complained.

We had been wandering about at the end of a long walk and were looking for somewhere to eat that evening. We passed by and the menu caught our eye. We asked if there was a table available in the early evening and booked to come back an hour or so later. First impressions were good, with the staff very friendly and helpful. When we got back we were taken up to a second floor dining room which seemed very nice. And then the food came along, and it was very, very good. Between us, we had the crab, the goat's cheese and the scallops for starters, and the duck, the cod and the steak for mains. We had the cheese board and two crumbles to finish with. There wasn't a false note in any of it, and it was all cooked to perfection with great flavours and texture. The wines were a bit pricy - 40€ for a Picpoul is pushing it - but as the value on the plate was amazing, we were happy to pay the extra. The service was attentive and very pleasant. Our waiter, Gary, was very friendly and efficient, and we had a nice conversation in French with him at the end. I've already recommended the Green Hen to a few friends, and I'm sure they'll love it.

I met two former work colleagues at The Green Hen for dinner on 17th January. The three of us opted for the Hake dish. The taste was good, but my goodness, the size was miniscule! Hard to justify 27 euro for a small portion of fish sitting on top of two small 'smashed' potatoes with a drizzle of hollandaise (?) around it. Not a vegetable in sight! No problem with the waiting staff who were very pleasant. I would also prefer a flat plate - it's quite hard to fish (!) flaky hake out of a 'dished' plate more suited to pasta!

Three of us had dinner booked for 7.30 on Friday evening (7th February 2020). We arrived a few minutes early and waited patiently at the bar. At 7.28 we approached what looked like the person in charge of seating, and told them we had a reservation for 3 people. He looked at his watch and said the table is currently 'finishing deserts' so we should go and wait at the bar. There were 4-5 seats free at the bar, but we didn't sit down because we presumed we'd be seated at our table momentarily. 15 minutes later, the same staff member came to us, only to ask us to 'sit down' at the bar so that 'he can keep an eye on us' - those were his exact words. Then he promptly gestured at the bar staff to serve us drinks. He didn't bother apologise for the now fairly long delay, and he promptly left us again. It was another 15 minutes before we were actually asked to go to our table. Lo and behold, a tiny table for 2, with 3 place settings on it. So we waited 30 min for a table for 2. Needless to say we were hugely disappointed. There was no apology of any kind for our wait. Unfortunately, the disappointment didn't end there. We skipped straight to main course, which came an appropriate time later, and it tasted good. I had the duck with was cooked medium, and it was served on some blanched cabbage, jous and some vegetable puree which was really salty. There was also a cylinder of potato. Once we finished our meal, we had these 3 massive plates on that tiny table which sat there empty for almost 30 minutes before they were cleared. Our red wine was served in white wine glasses (the bottle cost €48 so you'd expect they could afford appropriate glasses). Also they never cleared the glasses we had drinks in at the bar earlier on. Then we weren't even approached for another 40 min, after which I struggled to get the waiter's attention to request the dessert menus. Between 3 of us, we had 3 completely different dessert menus: one had 5 desserts listed, the other 4, and the last one only 3. We each had the creme brulee, which was really tasty; it was served with rum&raisin ice cream and a cookie. When the bill came there were 2 gins and 2 tonics on our bill, which we thankfully spotted (they came to €19 total). The waiter appologised (for the first time all night) and returned with a fresh bill. On our way out we were not even offered our coats, which we had to go search for ourselves. The bottom line is, I would not recommend a visit to this place, because it's not worth the money you spend (€25-30 per main course) considering the awful service. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this establishment. I just feel bad for the Chef because he's the only one holding this place afloat.

We had a table booked for 7pm for a special occasion. The restaurant was busy but not too busy so I assumed having booked the venue, having been there before that we would have a nice evening. When we eventually got the menus we were all having fish. Already the Cod was gone so some had monk fish and the alternative, but not on menu was salmon, which the 3 had instead of cod. Starter was Bruschetta, which was fine. Then main courses came, 3 monk fish dishes came first which was good to eat. The ladies having salmon had to wait & wait. Even when it came for one , the veg were cold so went back. The monk fish dinners were well eaten when the last of the salmon came out about 30 mins at least after the first dinners appeared. Wine, dessert and coffee were fine. The restaurant was quite noisy so it was hard to hear people chatting at the table. The restaurant manager was the only experienced member of staff that evening. I thought it a nice restaurant before, but I will be skipping it for a while. Maybe sometime with a smaller number. We were all disappointed.and the sense of the occasion was dropped because the evening was a disaster.

From the moment we arrived to the time of departure, we were well looked after by the staff. They were friendly, personable and professional in the way they carried out their duties, making all diners feel appreciated. The pear salad starter was very tasty, with a beautiful combination of textures. My hake main course was cooked to perfection and the portion size was just right. There were several items on the menu that were appealing and I hope to return soon.

We have eaten here numerous times and always had an enjoyable experience but unfortunately not this time. When our starters arrived mine was not as stated on the menu so my husband called the waiter and asked politely for the item that was missing, a simple request and one which our friendly French waiter was more than happy to oblige with, not a problem. When he walked away the other waitress asked him"what's wrong with her", meaning me the customer.Never heard anything so rude, firstly nothing wrong with me (slight problem with the food) and secondly if you must talk about the customers at least make sure they can't hear you, eh hello I'm right behind you.We obviously were not going to continue with the meal after that so asked for the bill and paid for our half eaten starters and drinks, the manager Mark? saw us leave and asked what was wrong, we explained and he insisted on refunding us our money and apologized, the rude waitress tried to backtrack but the damage was done.We left and enjoyed a delicious meal further up the road.To the manager and French waiter thank you very much you obviously enjoy your work and are good at what you do, maybe the bad mannered waitress should change job it's obviously not for Needless to say we will never be back.

I don’t even know where to start with this review. We visited the green hen on Saturday 15th January. When we arrived we were brought to a high table beside the door, it was a cold evening and the tables were more like where you would have a drink at while waiting on a table in the restaurant, I asked could we not sit at an empty table inside the restaurant in the warmth, I didn’t fancy sitting beside the door freezing while I had my meal. At first the man said no because there was a party of 7 coming in, I pointed out an empty table for two in the corner and he said oh yes I will set it up if you just wait here. That was fine and we were brought over to sit down. We went ahead and ordered a bottle of wine and water and our food. Our booking was at 5.30. Our wine came and we were enjoying that when after a while I realised no water was brought to us, so I asked for the bottle of water. Again we were chatting away having a drink and we were thinking the food was taking a long time, I looked at my Phone and it was 6.55, still no starters. With the Covid restrictions the restaurant was closed in an hour at 8. I then seen the staff come over to us and hand us our main meal, I said sorry but we are still waiting on our starters, they looked confused and asked had we not got them yet and again I said no. They apologized and brought our starters out a few minutes later. It was lovely but it was after 7 now, so we had an hour to have our meal which was very rushed. To remind you we had been there since 5.30! After our starters our mains arrived, they were freezing cold. Obviously had just been left there waiting until we had finished our starters. My husband had been told that venison was on the menu and would be served pink, he was very looking forward to that. We couldn’t see a bit of pink in the meat, it was extremely over cooked to the point he couldn’t finish it. We had also ordered two sides that never arrived which I also had to ask for. By the time we were finished our mains it was 7.45, so we wouldn’t of had time to enjoy a dessert, so we just ordered a cocktail each, when they gave us our cocktails we were given the bill, making us feel even more rushed to finish up. When we received the bill I tried to explain to the manager about our meal, he just said I know and I have taken it off the bill. He wouldn’t listen to me explain and all he knew was the starter hadn’t arrived as he had come over and apologized after that happened, he didn’t know we had to ask twice for our water, that our mains were freezing and over cooked and we also had to ask again for our sides. It was like we had just been completely forgotten about for the whole time we were there. Yes he took food off the bill but our whole experience was completely ruined and it was a rushed and non enjoyable dinner out for my husband’s birthday. We have been to this restaurant before and it was lovely which is why we came back. I can now say I would never go back again. As we went to leave the manager said someone would email me on Monday about it and apologized. I didn’t receive any email. Very very disappointing night and terrible terrible service. Very sad to see what was once a lovely restaurant go down hill so much.

We celebrated one of our best friend's big birthday (one with a zero) and wanted the meal to go well. Dropped into Mark (manager) before hand to select the table and from that moment, I knew we were in good hands. The fun started then and through all the great food, lovely wine, excellent service, we had one of the most enjoyable Sunday lunches I've ever had. The restaurant itself has a lovely ambiance to it and our corner table allowed us privacy, comfort and convenience. The ladies went with Mackerel to start, then a special of Salmon for main course and they loved it. My friend stuck mainly with veg options and I had the vegan menu. All excellent. We'll be back.

Popped in for dinner on a busy Friday night. We had a short wait and while we waited we were given a complimentary glass of prosecco. We were shown to our table by Mark the manager, who was so friendly and very helpful. He kindly recommended the cote de boeuf for us and we shared a delicious crab starter. The beef was so flavoursome and tender. The sides of green beans, mushrooms and fries, with a pepper sauce were also delicious. The staff were very friendly and really efficient. The ambience in the Green Hen is relaxed and fun. We will definitely return and can't wait for that!

I recently visited the Green Hen with a friend for a late lunch. It was my first visit to this French cuisine restaurant but my friend had highly recommended it. There was an excellent value lunch menu which we chose from and the food was superb. As we had chosen dishes with fish we asked for a Sauvignon Blanc from the waiter who chose a lovely wine for us. We had three course, all quite delicious, followed by several very nice and strong coffees. And a few glasses of lovely French red wine, again chosen by the waiter. There is a lovely ambiance to the restaurant and the staff were highly professional and friendly but never in your face. I fully intend to return and would highly recommend this little gem.

I ate in the Green Hen on Friday night which I could only describe as something that just ticked all my boxes when it comes to eating out. Professional, smart service, bustling atmosphere, and most importantly, quality no nonsense food and cocktails with a price point to match. Will be back👏🏻

I went here with a friend for my first trip out post Covid 19 lockdown. It was a lovely experience. Staff were really friendly, all wearing suitable protective gear and very mindful of social distancing. The menu was very short but excellent - had fab french onion soup and the halloumi was to die for - followed by a wicked warm chocolate dessert. We were very well looked after. I recommend this for a great meal out.

We really enjoyed our evening at the Green Hen. Our host Jen was fabulous, she was very informative when it came to helping us choose wine and snacks. She was so friendly and professional, The only concern we had was, the male waiters were not wearing their face coverings correctly, when serving tables snd chatting to customers the coverings were pulled down off their face. Apart from that everything was perfect. We will certainly be back!

Great food, friendly service, good value, and nice cocktail to finish. Went the first week since COVID lock down, because of this it was a set menu only, but we were both v happy with everything served (steak was perfectly cooked) and at great value. The staff were welcoming, helpful, and friendly. Looking forward to going back soon.
