We treated ourselves to a meal at the Argyll Hotel and could not have been more pleased. The phone booking was easy and with very friendly staff; service again was both friendly and efficient. The menu was imaginative, full of things that you wouldn't cook for yourself but that all sounded extremely appetising and the various options that the 4 of us chose all definitely looked and tasted appetising! The presentation of the food was lovely. Portion sizes felt just right - not too much and not too little. At £50 per head, including wine, we didn't feel we could have done better anywhere!

After a chilly morning on the water, we were delighted to find a warm welcome, and hot soup, at the Argyll Hotel. We didn't have a complicated meal, but the two varieties of soup, a sandwich and the day's special of potato skins, hit the spot and warmed us up very efficiently. The service was especially friendly, and we regret that we haven't visited the hotel in previous years.

We had an excellent dinner, with some beautifully presented dishes packed full of local ingredients from the area or home grown in the hotel garden. Lovely friendly attentive (but not too much!) staff in a beautiful location.
Well worth a trip to Iona just for this!

In general food was good apart from the Steaks. On the Friday the Steaks were supposed the be medium rare but were medium well done. On Monday the medium rare steak was really blue and tough to cut when they redid it the new steak was burnt and tough. The staff were really apologetic and I wasn't charged for it but it did put a damper on my birthday meal.

Rather good. A pleasant young man came to ask about drinks, then took our food order.
I opted for the egg mayonnaise with added smoked trout. Lovely, with a couple of lettuce leaves. My wife had the ‘Cullen Skink’, which they had on the specials board as fish soup. It did appear to be more of a thick soup than the Cullen Skink I have sampled elsewhere. It looked great, and we both thought it was one of the best Cullen Skinks either of us had tasted, and we have tried more than a few. Only the egg and trout sandwich was better.
If you can, sit in the conservatory by the road. The view is one reason we had travelled so far

After a dire eating experience at the nearby St Columba's Hotel, we gave this a try and were not disappointed. Lunch was basically a soup-and-sandwich affair but none the worse for that, We enjoyed our smoked salmon and salad sandwiches, sitting in the small sunroom at the front of the hotel, off the main dining room. In good weather there is also a large seating area across the road, with fine views over to Mull. The staff were friendly and helpful on both the occasions we visited, even though we had not booked. Lunchtime dining on Iona is limited in range but the simple menu here is recommended.

The food, wine and service at this hotel was exceptional.
Fresh ingredients straight from the hotel garden which you can see as you wander past on your way to the Abbey.
Best duck I’ve ever had and the lamb was delicious!
Will be back one day!

We came here for lunch whilst on the three isles tour, Staffa, Mull, Iona. The special for lunch was mussels which was tasty and a good portion. Rhubarb cake and ice cream to follow. Sadly no vanilla so settled for salted caramel ice cream. Staff helpful. Lovely view over the sea

We heard very good things about the hotel food, so my daughter treated us to dinner, we all ate different food, so we can give an honest opinion .
The soup of the day didnt disappoint, very flavoursome,i went for the dumplings , they had a fantastic sauce, but my only criticism was that they seemed a little dry, it was maybe meant to be this way.
It was so pleasing to see a kids menu, as we had a fussy 8 year old, he was delighted with sausage and mash, the fresh table bread was warm and home made.
My main was the duck, the jus served with it was delightful, the duck was perfectly cooked,my wife went for the Hoggit, which i thought was pig, but we learned it was lamb, so she didnt think she would like it, but she actually loved it.
Lastly, i opted for the treacle cake , I haven’t tasted one better!
Buttery, sweet the biscuit base was to die for, not a massive portion, which is a good thing. My wife had the ice ream that tasted lovely.
Then , as we enjoyed our food, we watched the sun set from the restaurant, to see the water glimmer was really memorable.
This restaurant is well worth a visit, the price was very good too.

We stayed at the Argyll for 4 nights and accordingly ate dinner and breakfast there. This was the best hotel food I have encountered. And in fact the hotel is described as a restaurant with rooms.
Delicious venison bourgignon or hake are typical mains. Tempura vegetables or pork belly or soup as starters. Beautifully presented and you know that all herbs, edible flowers and vegetables are from their own kitchen garden.

We went to Iona in rain and had lunch there. Unfortunately no free space at the time but the staff is very helpful to reserve table for us. Just a while, the rain stopped and we chose to have lunch in the garden but it rained again during our lunch. We have two kids, staff are very helpful to move everything into the restaurant. Compare to other restaurant on the island, food is really tasty especially the soup, price is very reasonable. Finally nice environment too with sea views. We planned to have dinner there too but unfortunately we have to go back before 6pm but will definitely go next time!

We arrived hungry after an early start and found this small hotel after walking up from the ferry. The menu for lunch was simple, soup and sandwiches with a special on offer as well. We chose the special, pulled hoget with a harissa dressing, cullen skink, lentil soup and mull cheese and home made chutney sandwich. Everything was delicious, the vegetables for the soup came from the hotel's organic garden. The staff were friendly, the price was good, we left very happy and full!

Only called in for afternoon tea after a visit to the Abbey. The service was very friendly and efficient - and the shortbread was delicious. Wish I could have taken some home with me! Very good location just a few minutes' walk from the ferry point.

Fine dining, the reviews are right. Elegant meals, tastefully done with portions on the smaller side. Good choices on the menu. I'll be honest and say it's not my usual sort of dining but very much enjoyed. We had main and dessert and savoured every mouthful! Booking essential.

Close to the ferry. Friendly service. Beautiful views. Fantastic fruity scone with jam and cream. Great coffee. A simple menu with good pricing which is just what we wanted after a long walk around the Abbey.
