About
Since it opened in 2002, Rocpool Restaurant ha become an effervescent Inverness brasserie with a loyal fan base. A cool contemporary decor with lots of bare wood and bold colours give a buzzy vibe to the restaurant which is situated in a prime site on the banks of the River Ness. The kitchen has a repotoire of eclectic modern dishes which use Scotland's matchless produce sprinkled with Mediterranean sunshine, plus a pinch of exotic spice here and there.

Our first ever visit to Inverness and we booked lunch here. It was a great experience, the food and drink were fantastic and the welcome and service was first class. We went for the 2 course lunch which was superb and excellent value. However I...definitely had crab and scallop envy looking at some of the other dishes coming out of the kitchen! This is a brilliant place, good value for money, dishes are of an excellent quality beautifully presented and the staff/owners are beautiful friendly people! We’ll doneMore

We nearly didn't go here because the menu on their door nor on the ones on their website denoted which items were vegetarian. Ie. Arancini siciliana on the a la carte menu could've been veggie or it may not of been? It didn't say. The...early evening menu had both a starter & a main that looked to be vegetarian but, were unmarked as such. Only upon ringing was I told they had a vegan menu which swung our decision to book for that evening. Turned out they had 5 very interesting options on this menu to choose from but, no prices nor anything suggested as a starter on it. They also had some side options on the a la carte menu of side salad & hand cut chips which may make quite a difference to someone with vegetarian requirements but, you won't know about these until you sit in & read the menu they bring to the table. There is a wine list available online but, we really enjoy cocktails on a meal out in the evening & neither were these mentioned on any menu available online. From the open for evening meals at half 5, this little brasserie explodes into action & tables quickly fill. Busy & buzzy atmosphere & not overly loud, which we found to be quite enjoyable. The service was very good, the woman initially serving us was very friendly & helpful. It kicked off with a choice of sparkling or still water & a lovely basket of a selection of delicious breads served with butter & olive oil. Upon taking our order, the waiter was attentive to the vegetarian requirements of my daughter asking whether she was vegan or vegetarian to make sure she got what she wanted. I am a pescetarian (vegetarian that eats fish) & realised quickly many of the fish/seafood dishes also included meat of some kind. I would have ordered the scallops to start however, these were served with chorizo which seemed integral to the dish being served & therefore did not request these to be served without the chorizo. I will add that on the phone, I was told the chef could adjust dishes to suit requirements but, it just seemed awfy fussy to have to ask so we both went for the trofie pasta instead which was quite nice & good portion size for a starter. A little note that there was a bit of cheese on the trofie which may have been parmigiano reggano. Parmigiano does contain animal rennet & some vegetarians may not find this acceptable on a vegetarian option although my daughter is not fussed about rennet so this was not an issue for us. Served swiftly after our starter was our mains. I went for the Mediterranean inspired Shetland cod with chermoula served on pearl couscous with a fresh herby & mint dressing with feta & pomegranate. My daughter went for the porcini arancini off the vegan menu. Both had good depth of flavour, were well presented & adequately portioned. We finished off with an affogato each. We also made our way through a selection of cocktails. The passionfruit one in particular was quite good but, they were quite small for the price at around £13 each. Overall, we were quite pleased with the experience & whilst the menu could be better, they were very accomodating for dietary requirements. All said, we didn't quite walk out feeling that wow, excellent level on the food yet, it was very acceptable, good quality & kitchen seemed to run quite efficiently. Perhaps the expectation of the quality/value just didn't quite match up for us in a few areas. We'd definitely give it another go if the menu was tidied up & was less vague about what is on offer re vegetarian & vegan options & we'd love to have a good recommendation for our vegetarian friends in Inverness. This place could really be great if it offered something like a garden menu with local produce featuring more straightforward options for vegetarians & vegans & without having to ask for dishes to be tweaked or be left asking for that separate vegan menu that seems to be kept squirreled away until you sit down. Better value & selection on cocktails would also be a wonderful improvement.More

Eaten here many times, BUT NEVER AGAIN!!! Ordered baileys coffee at the end of our meal only to be told "times up" service was appallingly slow, sat with finished mains for 20mins and desert took a further 20mins to come but we got told pay...your 300.00 bill an no coffee. Also got our food and not a sole even asked if it was all OK only to be told by the mamger/owner or who ever he is that in his 20yrs they have never asked such a question (how barbaric). We have eaten in much better places than this and I don't know one place that didn't give us a few minutes and ask us that very question. Food was good but SERVICE WAS TRULYSHOCKING. I personally will never eat here again and would suggest anyone wanting fine dining that you look at others near by for a much better experience!!!!!More

Fantastic service and quality of food and wine always to a high standard. The lunch/early dinner menu is excellent value. It changes regularly and there’s always something new and interesting. We would have chosen to go for dinner however that was booked - recommend booking...ahead as this quality is in demand. The Rockpool restaurant feels like a really special space away from the routines of life. We really have to force ourselves to go anywhere else.More

Great food, warm and kind service and a gorgeous restaurant. Restrooms were equally delightful! We saw many many people turned away due to not having a reservation, so please do book in advance. The early evening menu is great value and superb quality. Staff did...not rush us and the whole experience was wonderful.More

Fabulous restaurant. Staff very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, not cheap however - but worth what we paid. I had a dessert similar to a banana crème brûlée. It was beautiful- shame I can’t remember what it was called - I guess I...had far too many cocktails!!More

This restaurant comes highly recommended and the rave reviews are justified. The service is really top drawer, but friendly. The menu is imaginative and our fish dishes were well cooked. The waiting staff were knowledgeable about the food and wine and we had a thoroughly...enjoyable evening. The only small thing I would mention is that the tables are quite small, so wine bottles are often placed away from the table. Otherwise, I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone.More

We found out about Rocpool three months before we visited from a friend of ours who had dined there back in April. They told us "You HAVE to visit Rocpool when you're in Inverness, it's fantastic, even the bread was top drawer". We managed to...get a booking for a Thursday evening and we were really delighted we did. From entering the restaurant to leaving, everything was amazing. The service was smooth and friendly and the food was out of this world. The bottle of red which was recommended, worked perfectly with our main course and the Venison was the best we have ever had. If this restaurant was in a major city down south of the border they could charge a lot more than we were charged on the evening. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough and we will definitely visit the next time we are in InvernessMore

Hi, there are a few spaces along the street from the restaurant, which is pay and display up until 6pm presumably? There is also a small Tesco's nearby which has a car park you can park for free for up to 2 hours.

If you check their online table booking facility, it looks like the restaurant is closed from 31 Dec to 03 Jan, incl. (i.e. re-opens 4th Jan).
