This was one of my top meals after a week in Scotland. I had raw oysters and thai mussels, along with a few healthy glasses of chardonnay. The food and service were excellent. This is a relatively small place and I would recommend a reservation....I was able to walk in and be seated on a fully booked night. I was a solo traveler, which made it a little easier.More

This was our second visit to River House and once again we were not disappointed. It’s a cosy restaurant with the open kitchen in the centre of everything. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The owner wears chef whites but...doesn’t appear to actually cook anything, rather he works front of house making sure everyone is being looked after which he does very well. The food is excellent, crab Thermidor, perfectly cooked cod, delicious plaice fillet, if you like seafood this is a must visit if going to Inverness. A great reasonably priced wine list compliments the food, we had the Albariño and loved it. My only possible improvement were the oysters I had as starter. Sourced in Cape Wrath in the very remote north west I expected the usual taste of the sea when eating them but they were different. Quite creamy in flavour and texture I was surprised. I apologise if this is how they were supposed to be but it wasn’t for me even with the dipping sauces. Overall though we really enjoyed it and would go back.More

Despite arriving slightly late we were warmly welcomed and swiftly served. Two large glasses of chilled white wine were promptly produced, then two trios of oysters. The unadulterated ones were the best. After that one steamed monkfish on lentils with a nice rich sauce and...one fish stew. Both were delicious, as were the seaweed chips. Service was prompt and friendly and the bill just over £100 plus tip if you felt like it. We hope to be back.More

The first reservation we make on every trip to Inverness is with Alfie at the River House. The food, ambience and the friendly first class service from everyone is fantastic. Try the fries with seaweed coating for something really delicious and different! They are also...GF! Coeliac friendly but as everything is cooked fresh, no issues in adapting to allow for allergen replacements in the dishes.More

It’s number 1 on Trip advisor for a reason. Experience started well before we arrived. I called ahead to advise of allergies (without giving any detail) I was told “it’s no problem, we can accommodate your needs” - what a was to make a great...first impression on your customer! Things just got better, the service = 5 stars, we got what I believe was the best seat in the house - a wee comfy window seat overlooking the river. The food quite rightly stole the show. Generous portions of amazing seafood and extras. Would return in a heartbeat.More

I had dinner with my husband for our anniversary. The two waitresses were very friendly and professional. My husband ordered a cocktail that was not on the menu and the waitress did her best and beyond to satisfy the request. They provided very good recommendations...too. The food itself was absolutely amazing, we enjoyed every single bite! We booked for 5.30pm to enjoy the oyster hour and we were not disappointed!! We then had dinner and had a variety of appetisers and sides to taste a bit of everything it was all simply delicious. Icing on the cake was the chef going round and chatting with all the customers which I considered to be an appreciated touch On top of this I had the view on the castle from in side and the cathedral and bouncy bridge on the other side. We had a very pleasant time and we will definitely come back!More

What an amazing little place. We were staying in Inverness one night before going on a weeks trip to Isle of Skye. Managed to get a table at 9pm. Loved it soon as we walked in. Small number of covers. Privately run. Chef Alfie works...the room to perfection and all the staff are very engaging. Makes for a great atmosphere. Most importantly the food is insanely good. Great menu and fantastic quality ingredients cooked to perfection. Decent portions reasonably priced. Cannot praise it high enough. So good we booked in there and then for the following week. The same if not better on that occasion too.More

My husband and I visited this lovely restaurant on Friday evening. I had previously booked as I was impressed by the excellent reviews read on trip advisor and travelling from Fife wanted to ensure we had a table. The meal was absolutely perfect. We started...with the crab Thermidor for myself and my husband has the mussels done with the Isley Malt whisky. Both were faultless. I had set my mind on the plaice but found to my disappointment that the menu had been changed and there was no plaice. However, Alfie the proprietor/chef was a life saver and told me that although sea bass wasn’t on the menu that he would cook it for me same as the plaice was cooked. What can I say? It was fantastic and a massive portion. Thank you Alfie x My husband has the signature dish of seafood stew and talked about it all weekend. Next time we are in Inverness we certainly will be returning to this fabulous restaurant. Absolutely delicious.More

If you visit Inverness, Scotland, this restaurant should be at the top of your list! Book a reservation in advance. The food is fabulous, the freshest daily catch available. The oysters are remarkable, the halibut and palice were both delicious with flavors that are amazing....Perhaps the atmosphere is even better. If you want to put a smile on your face and laugh, Alfi, Jackie, and Rachel are sure to please. They make you feel so welcome.More

Came on Saturday 1st of October and had a fantastic meal. The crab Thermidor is beautiful as was the mussels main. The Halibut main was also great. The owner came over for a chat and the waiting staff are a credit to the establishment. This...has to be one of the best restaurants in town and a must for any seafood lover.More

Fantastic evening, the food was stunning all of it. The cullen skink was divine, I could eat that every day. Fish stew delish as were the mussels. Highly recommend all the puddings. We have been twice before but this surpassed our expectations. The 2 waitresses...sorry don’t know names, one with plaits and one with blonde hair, great sense of humour and super smiley despite being very busy. Of course chef always welcoming and very funny😀 We had a great time thank you.More

We started our dinner at the River House with Cape Wrath oysters. Then we had the cod with chanterelles and mashed potatoes and the seabass with ratatouille and grilled gnocchi. All seafood was very fresh and extremely well cooked for the fish. We ended our...meal by sharing the apple and toffee pudding. The Irish cider was also excellent. Nice settings, good atmosphere, efficient staff and good value for money.More
