Our table was available exactly as reserved, with a fantastic view of the bridge & river. Alfie was the perfect cook, host, and a lovely character. Never seen a more hands-on person, socialising with diners and even zipping out of the kitchen now and again...More

Thoroughly enjoyed this little restaurant. Everything from the food to the service was very good. The atmosphere was very good, such a nice quaint place. It might be a little more expensive than some restaurants but worth it for the delicious food.

We enjoyed an absolutely delicious dinner here last night with pleasant, friendly service. I started with fresh oysters, my husband with perfectly cooked scallops and risotto. The special was sea bream. It came perfectly cooked on a bed of fresh spring vegetables with a light...More

My first dinner in Scotland was at this restaurant. Setting a high bar for the rest of my stay. My meal consisted of very fresh oysters with caviar and the fish stew. So delicious.

Ate here on the Saturday night before the Etape, so booked a table in advance via e-mail with the chef/proprietor Alfie. The restaurant certainly lived up to it's five star billing and is thoroughly deserving of the many "excellent" reviews on here. The food was...More

Had a meal here with friends 27th April and the food and service were perfect! Chef was so friendly and accommodating, as were the waitresses who were working so hard but always smiling. The food was beautifully presented and cooked. Mussels and Halibut were very...More

They had no trouble in catering for my dairy free diet and am fairly sure your requirements could be catered for too. I was impressed by the chef creating a special sauce for me - instead of my having to miss out on a finer... More

For an authentic taste of Scotlands islands and Highlands look no further than River House, a beautiful restaurant on the banks of the River Ness overlooking the Grieg Street bridge to the Free North Church. The restaurants spectacular views are complemented by the casual sophistication of the dining room, a comfortable and unpretentious space with timeless design and a warm, cosy atmosphere which invites you to relax and really enjoy your dinner. Dedicated to sourcing the best possible ingredients from the surrounding areas, the River House kitchen cooks each dish to order in the open plan kitchen, using fresh, seasonal produce prepared in such a way that individual flavours shine through. Though mainly Scottish in heritage the River Houses recipes also take inspiration from international cuisine with, in particular, a nod to French cookery woven in to many of the creative, modern dishes. Wines are carefully selected to complement the River House menu, providing a good, but not overwhelming, choice of labels.
