We came before attending a concert at the Concert Hall having booked ahead - glad we did as they were turning people away. The place was packed (so be prepared to be closer to the other tables than we got used to recently) and the...owner sensing all his guests were heading to the concert, put on a Cliff Richard CD - a lovely touch to get everyone in the mood.
Although very busy the service was very good and all the food came out hot, generous portions and a lovely taste. This is the kind of Italian we used to go to when Italians were mom and pop places and not the chains that took over our high streets. Good value, tastes homely and very good.
Glad this place has reopened, its places like this that make GlasgowMore
Delighted to visit this cosy, welcoming restaurant with family & friends. 100yds from previous location, but still the same excellent standard of food and service.
Ideal for a quick lunch or supper but equally suitable for special occasion meal.
As frequent customers at the original...O Sole Mio we were unsure if it would match our ‘old’ favourite. However, we were not disappointed and would certainly recommend a visit.More
This is a lovely cosy restaurant in a busy area of Glasgow with both a pre-theatre menu as well as a complete menu. We chose our order from the full menu. The waitresses were both friendly and attentive while the owner has been in charge...of the restaurant for many years and was also attentive as well as sociable without however being in any way intrusive during our meal. The dishes are Italian with adequate however inventive touches. The wine list is quite extensive with reasonable prices. If you are in the area don’t give this little restaurant a miss. It could become one of your regular meeting places as it seems to have become for most of the clients present with whom it was obvious the owner and the staff were familiar with. In fact, as we entered the restaurant relatively early in the evening without a reservation we soon realised that the best tables near the front next to a busy mostly with pedestrians street had already been reserved by regulars. The food served to us was both tasty as well as satisfying in terms of the actual portions or combinations of portions. Perfect for a family meal or even a romantic evening. We were made to feel both as welcome and as special as the regulars there even though this was our first time there.More
We were there yesterday evening, both the food and the service was perfect. Starters were Minestrone and Chicken Livrt Parfait and the mains were Steak (a free upgrade to Ribeye) and Chicken wrapped in Parma Ham. the service from the waiting staff and the manager...was excellent from the moment we walked in the door till we left.
This is reputed to be the oldest Italian restaurant in Glasgow. We found it thanks to Scottish Coeliacs as my son is gluten free. They are offered lots of gluten free options - pizza, pasta, starters, bread and desserts! And lots of fabulous options for...non gluten free.
It was one of the nicest Italian meals I have had. The staff are so helpful and welcoming. They gave us proper knives to cut the pizza and a pizza cutter. They even came over and offered to cut them for us.
My only surprise is on a Friday night in August, they were only half full. Please support this lovely restaurant. We were there for a few days visiting from Newcastle and would have no hesitation eating there again.More
Serving staff were very attentive. Owner/manager worked his way around the tables and ignored the only table with two men sitting. On several occasions he walked the restaurant, checking in on every single table, yet failed to say hello or even acknowledge our table.
Have...been before and certainly will not be back.More
I first visited O Sole Mio at its previous location 15 years ago after my friend introduced me to the restaurant. I have been several times since then and was delighted to go back (albeit in its new location) with that same friend this weekend....The food was as I always remembered .. absolutely delicious! All the staff were warm, welcoming and friendly. It really is one of my favourite places to eat out - it's always so relaxed and you are guaranteed good food, wine & service! After stuffing our faces with a starter & main each (not forgetting the delicious complimentary focaccia) we couldn't resist the cannoli for dessert! It was crunchy & sweet and far too indulgent! But definitely worth it! Especially washed down with a cheeky limoncello! I'm delighted o sole mio opened up again and I hope to be back again soon!More
