This is a lovely cosy restaurant in a busy area of Glasgow with both a pre-theatre menu as well as a complete menu. We chose our order from the full menu. The waitresses were both friendly and attentive while the owner has been in charge of the restaurant for many years and was also attentive as well as sociable without however being in any way intrusive during our meal. The dishes are Italian with adequate however inventive touches. The wine list is quite extensive with reasonable prices. If you are in the area don’t give this little restaurant a miss. It could become one of your regular meeting places as it seems to have become for most of the clients present with whom it was obvious the owner and the staff were familiar with. In fact, as we entered the restaurant relatively early in the evening without a reservation we soon realised that the best tables near the front next to a busy mostly with pedestrians street had already been reserved by regulars. The food served to us was both tasty as well as satisfying in terms of the actual portions or combinations of portions. Perfect for a family meal or even a romantic evening. We were made to feel both as welcome and as special as the regulars there even though this was our first time there.

My wife and I were regular visitors to the old O Sole Mio and, like all the regulars, we were extremely disappointed when the property developers who owned the building would not renew the leases for the restaurant and the Iron Horse pub. We were delighted to see that Djamel the owner has now re-opened O Sole Mio a few doors along Bath Street. We visited the new incarnation early on Tuesday evening before a concert at the Royal Concert Hall. We were glad we had booked as the restaurant was almost full, including the outside tables. Despite it being busy, both the service and the food were excellent, Djamel was his usual hospitable and charming self, ensuring that his customers were able to enjoy the comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. It's good to see the return of this small independent restaurant - so different to the soulless chains.

We were supposed to go with our Grandson, after visiting “Dinosaurs Live”. Unfortunately he couldn’t make it, but we decided to fulfil our booking. Fantastic decision on our part! The restaurant was busy for a Saturday afternoon, and there was a continual flow of diners, many of whom seemed to be regulars, judging by the welcome and conversations from the Staff. My first visit, but my wife is a regular when she meets with her friends. The restaurant has a wonderful ambiance which is enhanced by its intimate size and extremely cheerful, efficient and non-intrusive Staff. We chose from the set lunch menu offering 1-3 courses. I had the minestrone soup and lasagna, both full of flavour while my wife had the ravioli and pizza (which I sampled - both extremely tasty). No room for a third course, but I did enjoy an espresso to complete a very enjoyable lunch. Thanks to everyone who contributed to a smashing Saturday lunch.

I visited O Sol Mio on Thursday 1st September. After many good experiences at the previous location my wife and I were looking forward to a nice meal with some reminiscing of the times we spent in the old restaurant. The my experience at the new O Sol Mio was a disaster from start to finish ! We arrived at 17.30 and the restaurant had only 6 people seated all of who were having the pre theatre menu. The 2 staff on duty looked tired and dishevelled. We asked where we could sit and the reply was anywhere. We then tried to take a seat in a window booth only to be told anywhere did not include the window booths. I was surprised given 3 other couples were using the other booths. On to the main reason for our visit. We decided to select our food from the a la carte menu and ordered the Antipasto for 2 followed by the Fritto Misto di Mare. When the antipasta arrived it was served on a large white plate with more white than food. The cold meats were rolled cigarette style, the cheeses were tiny triangles, cold and straight out of the fridge. The veg content was 4 olives, a teaspoon full of Italian pickled veg and 2 pickled onions ! The presentation, quantity and quality was terrible and at £14.95 a complete rip off !!! I told the waitress the antipasti was awful and she shrugged her shoulders and said she would tell the chef. Onto the not so main event...the Fritto Misto di Mare. Again this was served on a large white plate with really poor presentation. The fish had been cooked in batches and left on a hot plate until it was all complete meaning it was not all warm and mostly dry ! I have eaten both of these dishes regularly over the years and can honestly say both were the worst I have ever been presented with or eaten I again told the waitress the Fritto Misto di Mare was also very poor and this time she said she would speak to the chef. I said I would like to speak to the manager or the chef and on her return she said there were only 2 serving staff on duty. no manager and the chef refused to speak to me. We left completely disappointed and very annoyed. I will NEVER set foot back in O Sole Mio in Glasgow again and anyone reading this should AVOID at all cost if you in any way love Italian food. O Sole Mio, the soul of your previous reputation and heritage is dead and gone !!!

The staff were so welcoming and helpful in picking food, everything we ate was delicious and beautifully presented, my friend asked for shells off in her pasta and it wasn’t a problem for them.. The desserts were also delicious as was the wine.. will definitely visit again

This is reputed to be the oldest Italian restaurant in Glasgow. We found it thanks to Scottish Coeliacs as my son is gluten free. They are offered lots of gluten free options - pizza, pasta, starters, bread and desserts! And lots of fabulous options for non gluten free. It was one of the nicest Italian meals I have had. The staff are so helpful and welcoming. They gave us proper knives to cut the pizza and a pizza cutter. They even came over and offered to cut them for us. My only surprise is on a Friday night in August, they were only half full. Please support this lovely restaurant. We were there for a few days visiting from Newcastle and would have no hesitation eating there again.

We went for the pre-theatre menu and entered to a largely empty restaurant, This meant that the staff were very attentive and the food arrived promptly. My Lasagne was excellent and was a good sized portion. Chatting afterwards to the staff was interesting and made for a ver pleasant experience. Highly recommended.

A 2 star because the service was good but that was it almost everything else was well ... really bad to average. 1st time visitors and the last absolutely crap the meatballs were the worst ever, certainly not ground or seasoned well and pretty dense. You could bounce the meat balls down High St and it wouldnt make a difference. They asked why they were left on a side plate but that was it. My lasagna which I ate was average pretty bland to be honest. Foccasia was really nice but overall our visit was a 2 maybe 3 out of 10.

Arrived prompt for booking. Was ignored eventually shown to table after complaining. My Soup was cold when it arrived not cool but stone cold. After the fiasco on arrival I decided I would just leave it. My main course arrived piping hot so that was ok. I wouldn’t rush to go back. There’s many more Italian restaurants in Glasgow where you would get a better welcome.

Ok, I like Italian food, I am picky about what I eat and can be very critical, but I found nothing wrong and everything right about O Solo Mio . The service and attention from the waitstaff and the owner were much appreciated. The lunch special I had (a small pizza and a bucket of mussels in an awesome cream sauce) was a bargain ! And my wife's bruschetta was as fresh and tasty as could be. I enjoyed talking to the owner, he is devoted to his restaurant and his customers. When I complimented him about how clean his restrooms were he told me he cleaned them himself to make sure they were perfect ! That never happens, that job usually goes to the lowest paid, least service person on the staff. Next time we are in Glasgow we will be back. Graci

My second review for my wife’s favourite restaurant for meeting her friends in Glasgow for their regular catch-ups. I was “allowed” 😉 to visit, as we were just round the corner at the Pavilion Theatre for their excellent Pantomine. Thankfully we had booked as the restaurant very quickly filled up. Their Christmas Menu was extensive for all three courses. We had Soup of the Day (Mushroom) and Smoked Salmon on Toasted Italian Bread with Roast Peppers and Hummus. We both had Oven Roasted Prime Beef with garlic and rosemary served with baby skinned potatoes and seasonal vegetables ( one of which was my favourite - Brussel Sprouts). Had to share pudding, Panettone Affagato with warm custard. I managed to fit in an Espresso. Every item was beautifully cooked and absolutely delicious. I am surprised at some “comments” about the Staff. From the moment we entered the restaurant, we found the Staff extremely friendly and efficient, supportive without being intrusive to our enjoyment of the meal. As the afternoon progressed the restaurant became very vibrant as the tables filled up with diners who seemed to be “regulars” as suggested by their conversations with the Staff and Hosts. A very enjoyable meal in relaxed surroundings.

Walk-in at six on a freezing Monday. Directed to window table by greeter. We noticed it was very cold and thought it might be due to a vintage fan/aircon unit above us. When we pointed this out to our server, she told us it was just a cold room and made no attempt to move us. My wife had to sit with her coat on for duration of visit. Of the three wines available by the glass, one wasn’t available. No Malbec! Nip round to Sainsbury! My veal Milanese was the worst I’ve been served. It looked and tasted like a grey, greasy pancake. When asked by our greeter whether all was good with the food I remonstrated. He condescendingly put his hand on my shoulder and said he’d tell the boss. No apology or offer to sort it. Very poor quality at £18 a plate. We definitely won’t be back.

So sorry to hear that. The A/C unit broke down I’m afraid but ample fan heaters were provided throughout the dining room in the meantime. The pancake must have been tender though!😉

Wouldn’t feed this to the homeless.. when I walked in was dealt with rude staff and once ordered food took ages. The lasagne I ordered was rock solid in the middle probably reheated junk and tasted like it had been lying for a few years atleast. Pizza was mid but defo wouldn’t recommend. Place has lost its good food don’t know if there was been new ownership or new chefs but I have visited in the past but would not go back after this experience. The place is outdated leave with your dignity and shut down please.

I don’t know why I didn’t respond sooner but I guess it’s out of dignity as you see to know the meaning of the word. You are right in mentioning the unfortunate homeless because they deserve more than you do and they are more appreciative of good food than a troubled, small minded individual who called himself a customer!

Went to this restaurant yesterday around 3pm for a late lunch having heard good things about it from friends and family. We were welcomed into the restaurant by a member of staff and told to select our own table which I thought was interesting start. We were then asked to order our drinks as the menus were placed down, which felt rushed and then left for about five minutes to look over menu, ordered our food and proceeded to wait about twenty minutes for our starters (bruschetta with parmaham) to be brought out which then had to be sent back as they were missing the parmaham, the second time they were brought out it was only bread with a single slice of ham and three small sundried tomatoes, which is not what would be expected, however we were very hungry after our wait so ate them regardless, (we were not approached to ask if it was more suitable anyway). Our mains came out and were slightly better in taste and expectation (margherita pizza and penne arrabiata). The overall service was below what would be expected considering there were three tables in restaurant (7,2,2) including myself and my date, with two servers and a manager in terms of front of house staff. Overall we left feeling disappointed and underwhelmed from the experience. As someone who has experience working in hospitality it was unfortunate to see how little the staff and management engaged with the guests, numerous times other guests had to approach the bar area in order to gain the attention of staff to ask for various items or queries.

Lively atmosphere obviously many folk enjoying a night out. Returning to Glasgow after many years away I wanted Italian food but not a standard pizzaria, Disappointed. the antipasto I do better at home , unimaginative . 3meats 3cheese 4 olives. The bread was dry . Saltimbocca overdone dry salty and strangely “fishy” flavour. Not what I remember of Glasgow /Italy
