I had lunch at the Amarone restaurant in Glasgow some six months ago and it was such a good experience I made a booking for my sister and I to meet up (one from Glasgow and one from Edinburgh). I pre-booked a table the day before just in case. When I arrived my sister was chatting away to the Manager and we were both made to feel very welcome. This very positive, pleasant and engaging interaction lasted the entire time we were there - and we had a slow lunch, staring at 1220 and finishing at 1540 (and that was for just two courses!). In addition to great service we had really lovely dishes beautifully presented and dishes that tasted divine. We enjoyed sharing a bottle of Ripasso which, with the food, represented excellent value for money. I could not fault any aspect of the restaurant and recommend it highly - I most certainly will return on a future visit to Glasgow.

As Glasgow has many great Italian restaurants it is no surprise this was our first visit and certainly won't be our last.
We were given an itison voucher to visit this restaurant and it was a great experience.
With the voucher our menu was not as full as the standard menu, but we had enough choices and enjoyed every course, which was served and drinks orders taken by very good and tentative staff who made us feel very welcome.
The meals were all of a high quality and the wine and the cocktail which was in with the voucher were all good,
Definitely worth a visit when in Glasgow, also positioning is very central.
Will add to our list of great Italian restaurants available in Glasgow
Keep up the good work

Visited o 24/01/20 a party of 5 for a special birthday dinner. We chose this restaurant specifically because it catered for vegetarians and gluten free. Wonderful choices on both the regular and gluten free menus. I being the gluten free member chose the mussels to start, they did not disappoint, although I was sadden to receive non gluten free bread with it, this was soon sorted out by our waiter. All our starters and mains were beautiful, we all thoroughly enjoyed them. The reason for 4/5 is due to the fact that when some of the ladies in our company decided to use the toilets they where unable to do so because of the dreadful stench in them, we spoke to the manager about this who informed us it was an on going problem with the drains. Unfortunately we were unable to stay for desserts and more drinks as some of our party had to use the loo

It's not a standalone independent restaraunt, it's part of a chain but it had an 'indie' feel about it and the service received from the staff was that of someone who had invested in the place themselves. So full marks to them for their customer service!
The pre-thearte menu was slightly limited for me but I found two items, the chicken liver pate and the chicken escozze. I was a little disappointed with the starter, it was a little tasteless but it was presented well as for the chicken dish, it was tasty enough and delicate in presentation.
I would like to try the a la carte menu the next time as I was very envious of the calzone pizza which arrived on a nearby diners table as we were leaving...

We visited on Thursday evening as were staying overnight in the city and fancied Italian food. We had walked past the restaurant at lunchtime and the vibe and atmosphere seemed so great that we booked in for dinner and we are so glad we did. We were greeted by a lovely chap outside who showed us downstairs where we picked a lovely table, we had been so anxious about eating out again and I was so worried we would be next to lots of people but the tables were spaced out and all the servers wore masks and were very respectful. Our waiter was Josh and he was just fabulous!!! He really looked after us and recommended a few dishes which we tried, it was the best food we have eaten in a long time, postion size was brilliant, so fresh and delicious. The creme brulee for dessert was the best thing I've ever eaten honestly amazing. All the waiters and waitresses on Thursday evening were so polite and chatty, very welcoming and so friendly . We cannot wait to come back again and thank you to Josh who made our evening so lovely!!!!

If I choose to eat Italian food in a restaurant, I tend to hope the meal I pay for isn't something I could make better myself.
For a city centre restaurant in the perfect location, Amarone failed to deliver.
Good service to be fair, but the food was very, very average.
The prawn starter was delivered in a bath of butter (I think) and blew the mouth off me.
My main of chicken and taglioni was something a 5th year home economics student could rattle together.
I don't normally give out poor reviews, but this is the exception.
Appreciate the difficult time the industry has had recently, but don't serve a meal that could almost be a microwave special.
£30. Two courses and a glass of red. Wasn't worth the effort.

I visited the restaurant on Saturday afternoon with my mum and five year old daughter for lunch. When we arrived, we were told it was a reduced menu for weekend lunches. We were sat beside a till so there was always at least one member of staff hovering about near us. We ordered and the food was okay however the kids meal was a handful of pasta with two cherry tomatoes cut up. It was really disappointing and despite pointing it out to our server, she said nothing. We were asked twice if we were finished despite still eating and the staff were constantly at the table. We won’t be back.

My friend and I had the pre theatre 2 course meal. Our food was hot, extremely tasty, served promptly and the staff were all very welcoming. Reasonable prices, nice decor. One of my favourite places to eat in Glasgow. Would recommend.

We went as a family, lovely decor, took ages for drinks order then around 20 mins to actually come to table, even longer for food order to be taken.
Waiter very pretentious and felt like we were unwelcome.
Was charged for extras which didnt arrive, one side dish was lukewarm, another came as we finished dinner. To be fair the bill was amended.
The mains were tasty though and food was very nice other than the lukewarm potatoes but poor service has put me off. Had to get waiters attention 30 mins after finishing mains to get drinks. Still the dirty plates were left for a good 15 mins only cleared as drinks came as no room for them.
For the prices i would expect better, the service charge was added ( table of 4 ) which frankly is a joke as service poor. I always tip for good service as i have family in the industry but was not happy to be charged for awful service. Missed our trains home waiting for foodstuff despite having mentioned
Good food but its a no from me. The stars were awarded purely for food quality

I had a pleasant outside table as it was a nice evening.
I ordered a glass of rose wine which was nice.
The waitress took my order but I couldn’t have the Proscuitto starter as there was no Burrata cheese. So I chose the sea bass main course. Perhaps I misread the menu but I was expecting fondant potato along with it not saffron rice or was that the sea bream dish instead?
The roasted tomatoes were gorgeous and very sweet but the sea bass was really over cooked and/or reheated but I managed to eat it. The saffron risotto style rice was barely edible and I couldn’t finish it. The waitress asked how my meal was and I told her I didn’t enjoy it and asked for the bill. She apologised (it’s not her fault) and was very pleasant. I paid and left.
I’ve eaten here a few times over the years and always found the food satisfactory if not brilliant. There aren’t many really good Italian restaurants in central Glasgow and I have eaten in many.
I won’t give this restaurant a second chance.
I understand there are off days with staff shortages etc (and also that people complain to get items taken off their bill) but if a customer doesn’t enjoy their meal perhaps the offer of a free coffee would show that their establishment cares and trains the staff well on customer service..?
Not impressed at all. There is a little diner style restaurant called Amalfi a few streets away. It’s not fancy but even their food and service make Amarone look poor in my personal opinion.
It’s such a nice looking restaurant in a good location, shame really …

Firstly, we only went here because we were given a voucher as a Christmas present from our son and decided to use it this weekend. We now have the unenviable task of telling him how bad the experience was.
We had been a few times before but the menu had changed and there appears to be some odd, non traditional Italian food combinations throughout the menu.
Anyway, we found getting a table very easy for a Saturday mid afternoon. Servers were very pleasant but as we have found in other city centre restauarants, very inexperienced.
First issue, we ordered a bottle of Montepulciano and a server arrived with a large glass of wine, no explanation given for the mistake but was sorted.
Starters were Salumi Misti and Burrata Caprese. Both had problems, we spoke to the server who got the manager (David) and we explained the issues with the Salumi. The quantity of actual Salumi (cured meat) on the plate was an utter disgrace. The server had confirmed that they had previous comments regarding portion size however when asked, the manager answered that they had not. 2 small slices of Milano, 3/4 slice of mortadella, a teaspoon size of prosciutto crudo and ½ slice of parma wrapped around a grissini stick. There were some vegetable Giardiniera and little else to speak of. The managers sole response was that he would speak to the chef. We did not comment on the Caprese but the tomatoes were very acidic and you certainly don’t need to have as much garlic in this dish to make it taste good. Half of the dish was left without comment or question from the staff when taking the plates away.
Le Pizze were little better and by the time they arrived we had decided not to make any further comment due to the managers lack of engagement in our issues with the starters.
While there was too little on the Salumi starter, there was way too much Burrata on the Burratosa pizza. (also the whole clove of garlic in the sugo was just an appalling lack of detail in the kitchen). The Tartufina pizza apparently has porcini mushroom (we found none) all we could find was a slimy mushroom puree rather than actual mushrooms. The drinks (water, beer, wine) all not made on the premises were good and as advertised.
This used to be a good traditional Italian restaurant that appears to have morphed into a fusion of someones imagination. For instance the Lasagne as described on the menu with “Italian sausage, chicken, spicy ‘Nduja…………….seriously ??, what happened to ground beef and pork ?
In our opinion, this restaurant, like others in the city centre appears to be serving style over substance. Not sure if ownership has changed over the past couple of years but in any case, it has lost its way and it’s there in plain sight to see in the menu, the service and management and the actual food and ingredients.
Good luck to you, we prefer more traditional Italian and as described in the menu without ripping the pants out of it.
Cheers

My husband and I visited today and had a beautiful meal. There was a tiny problem with our main but it was remedied very quickly. We enjoyed lovely food in a very nice restaurant with attentive staff and delicious food, well worth a return visit

We used to come here often for lunch when in Glasgow. However on our last visit things have changed. Prices have gone up, portion sizes have gone down. There is no longer a lunch menu. Worst of all they add a 10% “discretionary service charge” to the bill for your convenience as if the customer could not decide if the service warrants an extra tip. On the day of our visit there were only three other tables occupied which was strange. There were lots of staff but no one seemed to be bothered with us and the service was poor. There is also a table which seems to be for staff to have lunch and generally socialise around. Not good if your sitting close and you get ignored. Sadly will not be back

Fantastic meal. We headed into town to use an Itison voucher we received as a Christmas present. It was well worth the trip! Often in other restaurants I've found that with a voucher you don't receive as good a menu or service. However this was not the case at Amarone. We received a friendly welcome and were taken to a good table. The set up here is perfect for an intimate meal. Great central location and you go downstairs so there is no noise from the streets outside. It is a large restaurant but the booths make it feel more cosy and customers were seated well apart so there was plenty of space around us.
The food was delicious! The minestrone soup was perfect for a cold winter's day and the pizzas were a generous size. I managed to keep just enough space for my favourite tiramisu dessert which was the best end to the meal. The cocktail too (Raspberry Mule) was lovely.
The service throughout was attentive but we never felt rushed. I will definitely be back with friends once restrictions are eased a bit more.

Lovely staff and comfortable tables and decor. The food was good, but possibly a little over priced. Overall though the ambiance and food was very good and service excellent.
But what was really terrible was the wine. Ordered a bottle of Chianti - the first bottle was very badly off. The waitress acknowledged this, agreeing it had a terrible odour. So she bought a new bottle. The second bottle was not ‘off’ but tasted very cheap, not worth the £29 excluding service they were charging. But I couldn’t face sending back a second bottle. Avoid their Chianti!
