Food heaven!

So I am sitting in Ox and Finch having my first mouthful of food and already I don't care about anything else in the world! Every single dish was incredible and I don't think I could pick a favourite. The smoked mackerel pate with horseradish and fennel was so fresh but then the seared scallops with pork belly and satay sauce blew me away. However the lamb and then the steak melted in my mouth. I don't even know what some of the things on the menu were but it didn't matter- every mouthful was a delight. The staff are very helpful and they suggested we ordered 4 to 6 plates between us. We opted for 5 initially and then shared a pudding plate. Price? Considering we had a bottle of wine at about £25, I didn't think the overall bill of £79 was bad but I wouldn't be paying it every week. As a special treat, however, it is a must. We would go to Glasgow JUST for a trip to Ox and Finch. Thank you to the lovely staff and the super talented chefs. We WILL see you again!

My favourite restaurant in town

guaranteed good time and food on every visit. I've been coming here since it opened and have not had a single disappointment. at first, I thought it was going to be a trendy short-lived fad but it has proved itself again and again as food heaven. Everything in the menu is interesting and good and it's great to have the tapas dishes so you can share and try different ones. The service can be rushed on occasion as they have become so popular but it's worth the wait - and if you can't get in there are some other good choices on the same road!

I've been remiss in not writing a review of the amazing, basically perfect, experience had whilst dining at ox and finch. We booked at short notice with a requirement to vacate the table by a certain time but that was not an issue. We had heard of this establishment through social media and whilst in the city on a mini break had to take the opportunity to dine there. What a joy it was! The staff were attentive, without being obtrusive to the experience, highly knowledgable about the menu and advised us of how the menu worked and we may have given them a treat by seeing how much we got through! The menu has changed slightly since our visit but I can only imagine the same exceptional standards are being maintained. Every dish we ordered was a treat for the senses....especially taste. Quality is obviously a key standard aimed for and nothing disappointed. Recommended items were as explained, the tease of us into a dessert was welcomed. If ever in Glasgow, seek this restaurant out you will not be disappointed. The next time I plan to go to Glasgow going to ox and finch again will be top of the the to do list

Meeting of friend

I was treated to a lunch here - had not been before - so popular booking a table is advised. Staff were lovely and very helpful. The food was a concept I had not experienced before. Small plates of lovely food - three plates per person were recommended and we each tried all the dishes. Want to return!!

I had dinner here recently with three friends who know the restaurant well; for me it was the first visit. Ambience is light and friendly, menu is very varied and extensive and interesting and creative and novel, service is friendly, helpful and unobtrusive. We picked four starters to share and then five or six mains. Sizes of plates vary, so I was appreciative of the experience of my companions in ordering. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of flavours and textures. I would happily return any time.

Gift Treat

Went to this tapas restaurant for the first time to use a gift voucher. Arrived at 5 pm and it was very busy so it’s a popular place. We ordered our first bottle of white wine at £26.50 and look through the extensive menu. Ordered 6 dishes: scallops with black pudding and piccalilli at £14.50, poached hake (£9), hanger steak (11.50), confit duck leg (£8.50), lamb shoulder (£9) and chips (3.95). We were also provided with a bottle of water which was a nice touch. There’s no doubt this is an expensive tapas restaurant but the food was tasty and the service was excellent. We had a minor grumble with the small quantity of the lamb dish but was quickly resolved. The service was excellent and friendly, so much so that we had a second bottle of Rioja white wine, even at £26.50. The whole bill was £109.45 so not a cheap night out but well worth a visit.

Wow!!! What a fantastic restaurant...

Wow!!! What a fantastic restaurant... the decor is great, the wine is amazing and the food really is INCREDIBLE. We ordered a selection of everything and I can honestly say that every plate was delicious (Hake and Pork were my faves). The staff and kitchen also were great at ensuring the plates kept coming but in perfect timing so they were well paced. There is also on in Edinburgh and I will certainly be trying that too.

One of the best meals I have ever had

We went to the 'Ox and Finch' as part of our Scotland trip and this was definitely one of the highlights! The service was great and very helpful, explaining how to order the food and giving us useful recommendations. This was one of the best meals that we have ever had! We had 5 tapas in total and we spent under £50. My favourite dish was the hake one (I teared up because it was so good!) and my boyfriend's was the pork belly. I will be recommending everyone to come here! P.S.: remember to book a few weeks in advance!

One of my new favourite restaurants

We came here on the 10th August for the first time, and what an amazing time it was! The atmosphere is really relaxed, and the staff were very friendly and all wearing masks. I had been to Ka Pao, the sister restaurant a few weeks before, so had high hopes for this and it was also amazing! The food was SO GOOD I can’t wait to come back and try everything else on the menu. Come with an appetite and maybe a large group of people so you can try more small plates to share. I can’t wait to come back already, and to Ka Pao!

We were given a gift voucher for this restaurant before lockdown and we were looking forward to visiting as we had heard great great things about it. We weren’t sure if the menu was to our taste but gave it a try today. Wow, we were so delighted with our visit. The staff were so friendly and helpful and took time to explain the menu. The food was exceptional- tasty, plentiful and each dish was so well thought out. We had the scallops, the crayfish and crab, the beef and the gnocchi and a portion of fries - followed by the chocolate and coconut pudding and an expresso cocktail. The quality of every single dish was outstanding! It’s a unpretentious but stylist restaurant located in the west end and ideally situated for having a good wander around the Glasgow university and Patrick / Anderson areas. The staff all adhered to wearing PPE, there was hand sanitiser at the entrance and the tables were well spaced out for social distancing so we felt very reassured. It’s definitely going to be a favourite of ours - well done Ox and Finch!

Fantastic

My partner and I came here for date night. The staff were serious about following the COVID guidelines. The staff were super friendly and the place has a nice atmosphere. We got our drinks and food pretty quickly. This is more of a tapas kind of restaurant but there is an amazing selection of dishes available. For the two of us we were £120 but it was totally worth it and you could do it slightly cheaper with no alcohol. We would come back and highly recommend it.

Very reliable

We visited again today for the umptinth time, when you want reliable service reliable varitiy and very taste food at a fare price this is the place to go. Dont missunderstand me its not reliable in a boring way no no, its all good they never seem to let you down, always a friendly greeting, great choices in all areas. Knowagable staff. You need to save space after the fantastic skate (my recomedation) for the dessert selection and properly preparired esspresso.

If you want a quiet meal for two the Ox and Finch is probably not the place to visit, but if you like good food I really would give it a try. On first sight the dining room doesn’t seem that appealing. It looks and sounds like a fairly raucous student pub. The staff were pleasant enough and the service seemed fairly speedy even if it’s sometimes difficult to hear what they are saying. The menu looks as if it is divided into starters, mains and dessert, but our server assured us that it isn’t. The courses on the left are light and the courses on the right are heavier, and they arrive in a random sequence rather like tapas. Our server advised us that three dishes each would be about right, so we took her advise and chose without any attempt to select courses that were complimentary. Linda ordered a glass of something bubbly and I ordered a glass of Italian white wine ( which they didn’t have, so it changed into Sauvignon.) without looking at the wine list so I can’t comment on it, except to say the Sauvignon was OK. So far it all seemed pretty average. The first course to arrive was a scallop, which looked pretty lonely on the plate but our server had warned us that the course consisted of a single scallop. The texture was fine but it had an unusual sharp taste which I assume was the garlic. Then the courses started to arrive thick and fast. I think the next was the cod cheeks. It was at this point I started to think I must have misheard the server because this course was pretty substantial, but it was excellent. The spiciness of the chorizo really complimented the cod which was cooked perfectly. Next was the beef tartare, which I thought was wonderful with an ideal amount of horseradish to give the beef a kick. This was followed by a Caesar salad. I really liked the balance of this and particularly enjoyed the crispy croutons. Now we had the braised pork which was very, very tender, it literally fell apart as you touched it. Then our final course was the duck. Likewise very tender and beautifully complimented by the peas and the sauce. In fact we both really wished we had ordered some bread to mop the sauce up except we were beginning to think we had already eaten too much. Nevertheless, we courageously decided we would order a chocolate dessert. My wife went for the white and I for the dark. She seemed particularly happy with her choice although she was prepared to let me taste it and I had to agree. My tart was equally enjoyable and considerably larger. I even liked the espresso. Overall six courses, two desserts, two bottles of water, two coffees and a couple of glasses of wine came to around £85 which was only slightly more than we paid for tapas a week earlier and was considerably more enjoyable. I really want to go back to the Ox and Finch to try some of the other items on the menu.

How lovely to return to the amazing Ox and Finch restaurant. Just can’t find fault with this place and the regularly changing imaginative menu just never fails to please. Every dish is full of incredibly, adventurous flavours. Of course, no restaurant can do without the back up of exceptional Staff, everyone here has great enthusiasm and the service is amazing - Babs served us and everything went so smoothly. Highly recommended but a visit also to their new restaurant, Ka Pao, in Vinicombe Street may well be visited as well next time I’m visiting Glasgow!

Visited today for a belated Birthday Lunch for My Wife’s Mother. Always been a firm favourite. We arrived a bit early as normal for us having traveled some 45 miles. Greeted as old friends by a very attentive staff, seated immediately and made most welcome. With Cocktails and water supplied whilst we perused the Menu, new to us we scanned a qr and accessed the the drinks menu online! Alana; our main server took us through the main Menu expertly and totally spoiled us throughout! The most wonderful thing was Mother in Laws Dessert which had Happy Birthday written in Chocolate on her plate. Once again this fantastic Restaurant has exceeded our expectations. Already looking forward to our next visit.
