I Booked this restaurant through a dining website website as there was a 'Big Deal' for a 3 course takeaway meal for 2. It looked like a good deal, The offer was for the following;
starter- Mixed chicken and vegetable pakora to share
Mains: choice of Chicken bhuna, Butter chicken, Garlic chilli chicken, Chicken madras, Masala dosa, Paneer butter masala or Vegetable punjabi and each
Comes with a side of basmati rice or plain naan.
This was followed by 4 Pieces of homemade gulab jamun for dessert and I must say i was not disappointed in the slightest, in fact i was delighted.
The pakora batter was light and non greasy and unlike the bright orange or red you see in some takeaways. The pakora sauce too was unlike the standard takeaway sauce and had a much more natural colour and flavour. I went for the Garlic chilli chicken and asked for it to be extra spicy and it was, but you could still taste all the different spices you would expect without burning my tastebuds.
My husband had the Butter Chicken, it's not his usual order, but we thought it was the safest option out of what was available in the deal as my husband doesn't like too much spice. That too was delicious although it was a bit too creamy and rich for his taste so he couldn’t eat all of it, a generous portion of rice & Naan bread accompanied the meal which were also great.
I don't eat desserts so my husband devoured all the Gulab Jamun to himself ( i did taste it thought and it was lovely if you like things so sweet)
when i ordered the meal the gentleman knew exactly which deal I was booking and the options available to me so there was no awkwardness. in fact he was really friendly and it was all very efficient. When i went to pick it up there was hand sanitiser at the door and a warm friendly smile from all the staff and a nice chat.
We loved our meal, it was great value and we will definitely be back for a sit in meal next time where my husband will order his usual chicken Pathia which I’m sure will match up to the very high standard of food we had this evening and we will be looking forward to experiencing the great service this restaurant has to offer ( I could sense after just 5 mins waiting for my takeaway) Well Done Madras cafe, you made an excellent first impression and for that reason I highly recommend everyone give you a try.

We had a take away from Madras cafe and the food was delicious. Between us we had some Daal , butter chicken and aloo saag. Each dish tasted great and perfectly cooked. We also had some great wholemeal chapati to dip in the beautiful sauce and i would thoroughly recommend the food here. Staff were very friendly too , advising me on what to order when i arrived to choose the food. It was very reasonably priced , quality food and we can't wait for the restaurant to open fully to sample some other dishes.

Madras Cafe is tucked away behind the St Enoch Centre, so doesn't get a lot of passing trade. This is unfortunate as people are missing a gem of a restaurant. I had an appointment nearby so thought I'd give it a try as I love South Indian food. I had a masala dosa from the lunch menu, which cost less than a fiver and came with a big bowl of home-made sambar full of flavousome vegetables. I followed it with home-made gulab jamen with ice-cream. My whole lunch, including a soft drink, came to £10. Not only is the food great, but you can tell the staff take great pride in the cooking. The chef is from Kerela and cooks his mum's recipes and the waiting staff are friendly and knowledgable. That was my first visit but it definitely won't be my last.

Visited for my 40th and this was stated in the notes but there was no acknowledgement, not even a happy birthday. Not covid compliant as no chefs wearing masks and staff also inconsistent. Man who took us to table and gave us some food not masked. Food ok, small portions, nothing to write home about. Asked for mine extra spicy, was actually very mild. I said I love spice but even the hot sauce wasn’t hot. There was a fly buzzing all around the table, which was very annoying and irritating. The cans of Coke were from a multipack, which I believe are not permitted to be sold individually. The man argued with me over my food choices and it was quite embarrassing as this was all within earshot of another couple watching - he said I wasn’t allowed to order what I wanted as it would be “too much”. It was my 40th, I was hungry and we had been planning to take some food home to have later on anyway. I really don’t think a restaurant should be personally passing opinion on what you want to order if you want to order it. Myself and my partner have wildly different tastes - I don’t like sweet naan, he does, so we wanted 2 naans but were made to feel embarrassed for asking for that and the man wouldn’t let us order them. Quite upsetting especially as it was my birthday. And also because the couple sitting right behind us were listening to every word. The bill was NOT CHEAP considering the portions were small and we also waited absolutely ages between starters and mains. I wasn’t happy at all. Nobody checked back on us. We left a very big tip as we always do, regardless (we are too polite not to) and yet he still wasn’t happy and instructed us to review on TA. So here it is. I felt they were more interested in themselves than in us. I didn’t once get a happy birthday or was made to feel special. Last year we went to the ivy and they brought out a little cupcake and a candle - very small gesture but it made me feel a million dollars and I loved that. So, this was very disappointing.

Thank you for dine in at Madras Cafe. We are extremely sorry that you were not happy about recent visit at our place. We apologise for forgetting about your Birthday hence you missed a complementary cake. We messed up with your booking note, this is where we fell short.
Rest of the long story is just consequence of the above and irrelevant. Chefs wearing mask is not a requirement. All of our front of the house staff wearing face masks.
We are offering you sincere apology and would like to welcome in our restaurant in future with better experience. Please note, this is not our usual standard.

Been here a couple times and has quickly become my favorite place to eat in all of Glasgow. Both times I've ordered off the lunch menu, both times the food was absolutely delicious, and was very quick to come out, couldn't fault it in any way. Portions were also very generous, which for the price of just £6.50 for the starter, main and side was more than outstanding. Staff were unwaveringly polite and a pleasure to talk to. All in all, highly recommend a visit. Also the mango peshwari naan which was so delicious I can't find the words to describe it.

This is a brilliant wee Indian restaurant. Paying only £9.95 for a two course pre-theatre I expected standard Indian fare. Instead I received one of the best Indian meals I have ever eaten. The taste was authentically Indian and our waiter couldn't have been any nicer or more helpful. A really friendly, welcoming atmosphere as well. Will definitely be visiting again soon.

stepped in the doors of this new Indian cafe and was made to feel very welcome from minute one. The food was very fresh and of outstanding quality. The spicy onions and chicken pakora was to die for. Main courses were first class and the naan bread was one of the nicest naan breads we have ever tasted. We were given dessert free of charge to taste. My husband had never tried gulab jamon and is now hooked. It arrived with fresh ice cream and chocolate and was absolutely delicious. These wee treats are made on the premises and are not bought in like many other restaurants do. You have to try this cafe for yourself and at this moment they are still giving 50% off the main menu. Will most certainly be back for sure as I see this becoming our regular place to go.

Have been to Madras Cafe a few times now and have always loved the food and service, but this time was something different as I asked them to cater for my partner's 30th birthday, a group of just under 30 people. The staff and chef rose to the occasion and simply couldn't have done enough for us. They were helpful and attentive and enthusiastic at every step, from during the planning weeks before right up until the evening. Every guest commented on how amazing the food and service was, not to mention outstanding value for money. Thank you, thank you, thank you Madras Cafe for giving us a memorable evening and I'm sure that you will have gained a few more regular customers from our group. I for one can't wait to be come back (but for a quite meal this time!!) If anyone reading this is looking for a lovely little gem of a restaurant, with friendly helpful staff and quality, authentic Indian food at a very reasonable price then you've found it at Madras Cafe. Thanks again guys and see you soon !

Lamb biriyani was perfect and highly recommend to others.
I felt Masala dosa was a bit expensive and could have been bigger as it restaurants prepare in India. I am not sure why Coconut chutney was in light red. I thought it was tomato chutney first. The chutney was bit spicy and did not go well with dosa. They could have added one more chutney for the price ( Tomato/mint). Sambar was okay.
Chicken Pakora - We expected pakora in a smaller size but served 4-5 large pieces. however, the taste was good.

Absolutely amazing meal at Madras Cafe! We were so excited to find a local, reasonably priced, Indian restaurant with exquisite food! From the starter to our dessert, every mouthful was just bursting with flavour.
Hussain was incredible as our waiter and was extremely knowledgeable about each dish; offering us alternatives when the vegetarian option wasn't available.
We will definitely be back! Hats off to the chef and staff. Thank you!

We had lunch here on a recent visit to Glasgow. Absolutely brilliant place, wish we had discovered it earlier. The food is so good and fresh and fantastic value, we had the £6.95 lunch special with a couple of kingfisher beers. The staff are so lovely and helpful. We even bought a copy of the head chef's cookery book which he graciously signed for us. Looking forward to trying some of his recipes.

Came to Madras Cafe as lots of other places in Glasgow were booked up for our date - we were not disappointed and enjoyed a delicious and reasonably priced meal here which exceeded expectations.
The masala dosa and medu vada were exactly like the ones I've eaten in South Indian and serving it on an authentic tray made the meal feel really special. All the food was packed with flavour and the staff were helpful and contributed towards a pleasant dining experience.

Amazing food cooked to perfection
Friendly staff , fabulous flavours in the food. Melt in the mouth lamb Loads of choice

Chefs excellent at making your meal even comes out of the kitchen to check everyone happy with his food.
Chicken 65 similar to chicken pakora but without the thick batter. Brilliant taste
Dosa also lovely

We came a few weeks ago with a few friends. We had starters and mains i had seabass for starter, which was unreal! Currys were all amazong and fresh. The owner was very attentive and spoke to us about their goals, their dishes and supplier's and the chefs career. Totally recommend! Plus not far from city centre! 5*

We ordered a range of dishes from the take away menu and all were delicious. The warm and friendly owner delivered the order to us personally and also gave us additional poppadoms,apple chutney ( delicious and homemade) and an exquisite lime and mango pickle. The pakora is the best we have ever tasted (general consensus among 6 friends) I had chicken saag which was unctuous and rich in flavour and I had a taste of my friends' Dopiaza which was sublime and the Paneer Korma which was sweet and satisfying. We will definitely be ordering a take away again and hope to pop by their fabulous cafe which is on Howard St. We liked the homely authentic feel to the food which tasted fresh , homemade and delicious.
