My boyfriend and I visited Phuket Pavilion last night after about 7 years and were very happy with the food and service. We had chicken satay to start (nice, but I wished for at least a double amount of the satay sauce), then duck red curry with pineapple (asked for it to be extra hot and it was fantastic), beef... I have eaten at several Thai restaurants and would have overlooked this but for its close proximity to my hotel this visit. surprisingly empty compared to the plethora of Indian restaurants, we were initially unsure. However, the typical excellent service kicked in from the start and our starters and mains were delivered quickly and beautifully presented. Shared starters were chicken... More

My Wife and i ate at the Phuket Pavilion prior to watching a show at the nearby Edinburgh Playhouse. We didn't have a reservation so we went quite early, about 5:30, It's just as well that we did as it filled up pretty quickly. The food was excellent and the staff were friendly and attentive. Definitely worth a visit if... More

We were looking for something pre theatre and as we hadn't booked were struggling to find somewhere. We stumbled apon this restaurant and managed to get their last non booked table. The menu was vast and they had a very good pre theatre menu at a great price, the other diner was vegetarian and there was a whole pre theatre... More

Lovely restaurant set off main road. Lots of choice on menu, we opted for a banquet - plenty of food for two. Had the sticky coconut rice with lychees for dessert - shared between two of us, the rice and lychees complimented each other. Thank you to the staff.

This place is incredible! The staff are so lovely and dressed in traditional Thai clothing. The owner is very pleasant and came around our table a few times to make sure we enjoyed our meal. And we certainly did! The food is perfectly seasoned and tasted very authentic and special, compared to many other Thai places that claim to be... More

Very authentic Thai restaurant with great staff and nice surroundings. Had Goong Yang for starters was very spicey, wife had chicken satay, couldn't fault them. We then had 2 different sea bass dishes with coconut rice, again no complaints. Not the cheapest but quality of food and service makes this no issue. Worth a visit.

This was my second time to visit this restaurant. I have been dreaming about the tempura prawns since my last visit & they didn't disappoint! Amazing! I decided to have duck this time instead of the usual green curry - again absolutely gorgeous. The house wine was also great. Will definitely be making a visit here next time I'm over.... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
