The entrance to the restaurant is quite hidden but lovely lit up with fairy lights. The staff were very welcoming and friendly even though we showed up quite late. As a starter we shared the bread board and the smoked bacon and butterscotch, both deserve...More

On the positive side the staff were great. I struggled to find a gin based cocktail that didnt contain some kind of flowery ingredient but the waitress sorted one with the barman. The scallop starter was lovely and the mussels were nice. A tad overcooked...More

Ate here with 3 business colleagues. The music was far too loud. We could scarcely converse. The food was quite good but very expensive when judged against portion size. The much lauded “duck fat chips” cost £4.00 per portion. I got about 12 of them...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the

Monteiths prides itself on using great quality ingredients that are locally sourced where possible. Provenance is hugely important and we work closely with our suppliers to ensure that our food comes from farm, to plate as quickly as possible. Although we frequently change our menu to reflect the changing seasons we also have a range of specials including dry aged fillet steaks and chateaubriand available. There is also a selection of seasonal dishes from the sea including fresh Scottish lobster and oysters. We also serve a wide range of hand crafted cocktails, beers & wines from around the world. Whether you're looking for lunch, dinner or drinks Monteiths on the Royal Mile is a must.
