My 2 year olds cheese sandwich was made with stale bread and dried up grated cheese. What a shame and how hard is it to get a cheese sandwich right? A staff member told me this type of bread is stored in the fridge and not today's bread. So don't expect fresh bread in your sandwich here it seems. Also... More

Sorry the bread for the sandwich was not to standard at this time however my staff tried their best at the time to rectify the situation for you by offering several alternatives which you seemed happy with at the time, if there was something more we could have done at the time you need only have just asked. We don't... More

Always stop in for lunch after mass or waiting to check in to local hotels. I look forward to a baked potato done in the oven as only Edinburgh seem to do but this time baked potatoes were off the menu . No reason given. Wouldn't hurry back.

Sorry to disappoint you on this occasion and thank you for your feedback. We have however as of this week brought back oven baked potatoes to the menu. We hope we can welcome you back in the future for a tasty freshly baked potato. More

I've always enjoyed visiting Cafe Camino as it's well priced central and child friendly but I think today's visit will be my last. Mainly because I was served by someone who had dirty fingernails and a not to clean arm support on his wrist which was coming in direct contact with the food. Also stood for several minutes waiting to... More

I'm really sorry to hear about the unsatisfactory service you received upon your visit to Cafe Camino this weekend, it is not what I would expect from staff even if we were busy with another event. I will ensure to reiterate to all members of staff the importance of personal hygiene and customer service. Thank you for bringing this to... More

Had a long wait between trains at Waverley, and wanted breakfast. Had a wee wander, and stumbled on this place. It's a far cry from the typical station environs greasy spoon, being light and airy, with well-spaced solid wooden tables, high ceiling and large picture window. The full Scottish breakfast with good local ingredients is a steal at £5.95, the... More

Stumbled across this great wee cafe whilst looking for a late breakfast after some shopping. It provides a clean spacious area in a relaxing environment, serving up great food. Not a huge menu, but great food all the same. As its far enough around a corner to be missed by most you can relax and enjoy your visit. Baby friendly... More

We got married in St Mary’s Cathedral and decided to organise a small Prosecco reception at Café Camino straight after the service for us and our guest. The reception in the adjacent church hall was really lovely and they served a few nibbles (mini quiche, salmon blinis, etc.) combined with Prosecco and orange juice. We had a great time and... More

I used to love this place but they've tarted it up and sadly didn't impress. While the staff were very friendly and were trying hard, the kitchen let them down. I had to wait 50 minutes for a mediocre panini. I won't bother going back

Cafe Camino is an outreach outlet of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cathedral and is part of the cathedral complex. Under new management for the last few weeks, it is obviously a very popular central venue as when my nephew and I lunched there yesterday the place was packed. So much so that many people walked out, there being a long... More

Not the best quality food but for the price you can't really complain. The cafe is set out very strange for the space that is available to them. Also, it's says table service only and we were asked to stay at our table but there's only so long you can wait to order or to ask for the bill. When... More

I decided to visit this café for the first time instead of going to John Lewis. The service was incredibly slow . I ordered ( with slight reservation ) potato and oregano soup. A bowl of milky coloured tasteless soup arrived ,eventually ,but I was unable to eat it as it tasted simply awful. I am not a fussy eater... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
