A lovely quaint family run Italian Restaurant pretty much next door to the Festival Theatre. Food was decent, and portions were big. Service very good and friendly. Unfortunately I didn't have room for their award winning icecream or banana split, but it looked amazing! I would go back here.

We were hastily taken to our table for 2, which ended up sandwiched in between 2 other tables with as little room in-between as possible. I completely understand restaurants need to fit in as many patrons as possible but this was being packed like Sardines. The waiter who took us to our table didn't offer so much as to take... More

Staff are pleasant and friendly. Menu is simple and clear. The food is fresh and the pasta and pizza always good. Children's menu is a great too with good quality child friendly Italian dishes. Loads of theatre goers in for the pre-theatre menu but whilst it saves a few pence, two courses from the man menu isn't that different in... More

Just come back from a night in Edinburgh and we decided to try Ciao Roma and we were not disappointed, it was one of the best Italians we have ever had! I had lasagna, fries, spinach for mains my partner had fillet steak al chianti with fries and spinach and we shared a garlic bread and cheese. Then for dessert... More

My Wife and I visited Ciao Roma for sunday lunch on a recent weekend trip to Edinburgh. It's an authentic family run Italian restaurant. I had calamari to start and a huge sea food pizza for my main meal and both were very nice. I would recommend this restaurant if you are in the area.

Great value childrens menu got us in but the rest of the food was excellent. The mussells were really tasty. I had a seafood pasta dish which was lovely. We sat so we could see the open kitchen. Even the dough mixer was going. We ate when it wasnt busy and the service was great and speedy

We are here with our two young children and found it very enjoyable. The staff are extremely child friendly - talking and joking with our two year old. The food was also delicious. The pizza was beautiful, lovely thin crust and fresh toppings. Nice atmosphere. Definitely recommended for anyone, but especially people with children.

Though located outwith the more popular districts in the city centre, this authentic Italian restaurant is certainly worth the 10 min walk!! Don't be fooled by the rather small and somewhat insignificant shop front this place is massive and can cater for large parties. The atmosphere within is fantastic and the staff very hospitable. We were served promptly and the... More

Had an amazing meal here last night. The calzone pizza was just fantastic. Along with the crepe for dessert. The restaurant was such an authentic Italian and the waiters were very helpful. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Edinburgh. Beats the chain Italians hands down!! 5 star

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
