WOW! WOW! WOW! Starters, main course, desert. The chefs here are true artists. Amazing food and service. Unpretentious. Humble. Simple. Just the way everything in life should be.

Tried this place last minute ona particularly cold January night, few diners in but that was becuase of the weather and just past Christmas, what a lovely place. Upstairs on the first floor, but really cosy and romantic once inside. Menu really nice with a lot of thought given to its cooking and presentation. Staff were brilliant very knowledgeable and... Last night, John & I had dinner here for the first time (table 5) & we were totally amazed by the standard of the food. The quality of the food was first class and presented in art form - pleasure for eye & the taste was Devine. It takes passion to produce at this standard - well done to the... More

We've stayed nearby in a small hotel in Grassmarket and we looked this restaurant online and decided to try it out on our last night in Edinburgh. We could not have chosen better!! From the start with the friendly and warm service of Leandro, it was the perfect meal! I've tried the risotto for starter and the salmon as main.... More

Came here after the nearby whiskey experience (2 min walk). Excellent service and excellent cooks. Nice candle lit dinner, above expectations.

My family of 6 had dinner at The Grain Store in December. The food is excellent! Several had the venison and Roe deer and said it was amazing. I had the halibut, which was done to perfection. The wait staff was attentive, but also let you enjoy your meal. The setting is a hideaway off Victoria street, beautiful old stone... More

We booked this for our one year anniversary as a special treat based on reading excellent reviews. And it 100% lived up to those reviews. A very unassuming staircase entrance led us into a beautiful restaurant with stone walls and dim lights. We were treated to a glass of prosecco when we were sat down. The service was friendly and... My boyfriend and I had dinner here as our friend that lives in Edinburgh recommended it to us, I must say he was right we had the best dinner here, the staff was very friendly well trained and attentive. The owner was also sweet and friendly. I'll definitely recommend this place for a fancy dinner 10/10 from us 👌🏾

We had dinner there and it was very good, very tasteful. The restaurant is on the first floor and the place is maybe somewhat hard to find, but if you're there it is worth it.

Recommended by hotel concierge--and a good one. Friendly service, good menu, and delish, to boot! We would return on a future visit.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
