Three of us visited and chose the special price lunch. We expected small helpings but they were substantial and the Black Forest gateau was very large! The choice was adequate, service good and the food good to taste. At under £8 it is amazing value.

This was such a fantastic Italian restaurant! My new husband and I loved every bite. The owner was so kind and cheerful. The staff was so kind to us even though we came in so late for dinner. A must try Italian restaurant in Edinburgh!

We popped in for a quick bite to eat straight away all 4 male staff looked moody as hell, grumpy and awkward. When waiter came to order drinks we already knew what food we wanted as were in a rush so asked can we order everything just now, apparently not! That's another waiters job, only for the same guy to... More

Family friendly!?....we were turned away from La Rusticana for having a young family (newborn and 3 year old). I entered the restaurant with my 3 year old and asked for a table for my family for lunch. The staff member told me that they do not have high chairs (we didn't require one) and would not accomodate a collapsible buggy.... More

A return to La Rusticana for a festive lunch with friends, A four course meal with three very simple starter, soup and dessert courses but generally very good main courses (I had sirloin steak with a very good sauce and the trout looked good too) and excellent coffee. The food is generally average but the set lunch was good value... More

Visited this restaurant with my mum after an afternoon in Edinburgh, it was about 9pm so quite late and we were looking to share a pizza and a few sides along with a bottle of wine as we had earlier eaten a large lunch. We were appalled with the service provided, when informed by waiter that we were unable to... More

Just returned home from our night out. La Rusticana was dealing us, another team from our company as well as full booked tonight. Service was good, efficient, menu with plenty choice considering how booked it was, no delays in service. We were pleased and a great night had by all. I have eaten here before and always good.

Dont be put off by some of the reviews, we went here for a meal out and had a very good meal. Highly recommend the Rusticana Pizza, packed with chicken, mushrooms, onion and peppers, topped with cheese.

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
