Stumbled across this place whilst looking for breakfast. They have a good selection and some good seats in the window to watch the world go by. I would highly recommend the avacado and feta on sour dough toast!

We love Brown's! I have been here many occasions and I'm never disappointed. On this occasion we were celebrating a birthday and were served by Liea (sorry if I've misspelled!) who was very warm and friendly and made our experience a great one! Our meal was complete with a complimentary birthday dessert ☺️ The food is amazing, great choice and... More

we visited here on saturday 8th April which so happened to be our wedding anniversary, it was nice and quiet as it was after the afternoon rush and before the evening rush, plenty tables empty. we noticed straight away that the waiter wasn't a very pleasant chap as he didn't even look as us when asking for our drinks order... I went to browns when visiting Edinburgh recently. I had always been under the impression that it was quite pricey but upon properly looking at the menu it really isn't too bad. Me and my boyfriend shared the fish platter to start which was amazing! The portion size was decent and it was all very fresh. I then had the... More

This is a beautiful spacious restaurant with a lovely atmosphere, and a wonderful champagne selection and cocktail menu. The food could have been better and hotter, but it was respectable and ok value. Service was decent, but I'd be more inclined to try more independent restaurant scattered around the city as there is just so much choice in Edinburgh.

Shocking service, on arrival met by know body, then when girl did arrive, she looked grumpy and non engaging. Led to our table and disappeared. Waited for ages for any service with no drinks menu. Asked for water with drinks which we had to ask again for! Food ok, nothing special, wife had saw a desert online that she had... More

Myself & My Girlfriend went to Browns after a busy day of travelling and we just wanted some good food. We chose Browns because of the reviews of the chain in Newcastle and it live up to its expectation! We had the 'Fishermans Platter' for starter which had Crab, Salmon, Muscles & Chilli Squid. I would highly recommend this as... More

Went to Browns with friends and was thoroughly disappointed. There was absolutely no atmosphere in the place. It was cold, lifeless and the service was ridiculously slow, even though it wasn't particularly busy. The staff continued to apologise throughout our time there but this did not make up for the service and at times the staff came across as rude.... More

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
