Disgusting meal - grey, greasy meat. Slimy aubergine. Nothing seasoned. Pasta. I think it was purporting to be moussaka. No bechamel sauce , no potato - just a greasy, revolting mess. Maybe tea, coffee, cake OK

We ate here twice during our stay and found it to be a very friendly and good value spot for lunch. They offer a mixture of Turkish and Mediterranean dishes, including good choices for vegetarians too. I believe during the summer season they are also open in the evenings, so this would be a good choice for dinner at those... More

With all the choices available in the Old Town, it's easy to overlook Cafe Treva. Don't! It's a great place to have a coffee break or a lunchtime treat. Staff are always welcoming and the cakes are divine. This is one of our favourite stops after visiting the Parliament or The Scottish Storytelling Centre. Great coffee, great cake and great... More

We had a lovely meal in Cafe Truva. The owners were very welcoming and could not have accommodated our little boy any more. The food was great and service was very attentive. No doubt we'll be back before we head home. A great spot!

Friendly service, interesting decor, speedy food prep and flavoursome dishes. My wife had lentil soup, I chose chicken cous cous. A nice change to have some tasty roasted vegetables and salad. Good spot towards the Holyrood end of the mile for when we had finished our audio tour

We stopped for a lunch and.. what a surprise! It was really good, we enjoyed every single stuff included in their meze. Definitely it was one of the best lunch\brunch I've had recently. Even our toddler enjoyed it. Read some comments about not that nice waiter, but we were lucky with our friendly one. Cheers!

We're regulars at Cafe Truva in Leith and popped into the larger Royal Mile restaurant after a visit to the Museum of Edinburgh. The food is great - from Turkish breakfast to rich fruit cake. The service is tip top. However, I have to give a special shout-out to Cafe Truva's coffee. I frequent many excellent coffee shops all over... More

The place is very well located on the Royal Mile and it's especially good when the weather in Edinburgh goes mad. The inside is so nicely decorated and cosy, it is impossible not to love. The service was good as well, staff friendly and helpful. We only had a Turkish coffee which came with some Turkish delight, reasonably priced for... More

An interesting Turkish cafe with a variety of unusual dishes. Service was polite and efficient. Food was okay but not quite up to the standard one would expect in this part of Edinburgh.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
