Me and my wife ate here on our first night in Edinburgh and we weren't disappointed. The food was excellent and the service was just as good. I had the Cod Risotto and my wife had the Venison steak, both of which were gorgeous. The restaurant was inside the Waldorf Astoria so it was a fancy place and the drinks... More

On a recent trip to Edinburgh I took a friend to dinner at the Galvin Brasserie. I have wanted to try it out for a while and so pleased on this visit we could give it a go. On arrival we had a pre-dinner drink in the bar at the Hotel and then made our way to the brasserie. We... More

Waldorf- -Astoria seafood bar!Service was attentive but not intrusive. Oysters were wonderful and fresh; salmon appetizer was ridiculously tasty; rhubarb soufflé off the charts- that alone is worth the visit!

We booked directly at the Waldorf Astoria when we checked in. The Galvin was not open so we ate at the brasserie. It was a wet Sunday evening and, perhaps for those reasons, it was very quiet. That apart, we found the surroundings to be very pleasant, the menu excellent, the dishes cooked to perfection and the staff very attentive.... More

We booked directly from the reception of the Caledonian Hotel and the impression of the Brasserie has been very good. The hostess was very kind and professional, she showed us our table and delivered an envelop with the wishes for our Anniversary. Very good impression and very happy for this thought. The waiter came to us a little bit late... More

A restaurant with a classic style. Galvin Brasserie is perfect for a formal dinner, the waiters are experienced and the food is of high quality. The whole a lobster I had was really well served and it didn't require much effort to eat.

Warm welcome on a quiet Saturday afternoon, shown to a discreet table though slightly chilly at the window. Friendly cosmopolitan staff answered questions where they could and sought answers when they couldn't! Our starter of home made pasta with rabbit was absolutely and unexpectedly delectable; mains followed of duck and lobster which matched the satisfaction of their predecessor. Our voucher... More

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
