We ordered food from there and the pizzas came so small, smaller than we expected. But it was tasty. The lady that took our order was super nice and the place looks like very warm to spend an evening in

The staff is really informative and welcoming. I ordered a take away pizza after seeing the offer behind the porch £5.50 and the waiter invite me to sit down and the waitress served me some water in me meantime I was waiting. The pizza was done quick and the taste was amazing. Proper handmade dough with fresh ingredients.

Went into this restaurant in November with my husband, brother and sister in law, I hadn't been feeling well all day and thought I would feel better after having something to eat I ordered a latte and a pizza, when my food arrived I realised that I didn't feel up to eating it. I explained to the staff I wasn't feeling... More

I'm a fairly regular devotee of Mamma Roma's: the food here is more than decent 'home cooking' (with some very nice 'peaks' like the tiramisù). It's very popular with theatre-goers because of the reasonable pre-theatre menu (this also means booking is advised between 6-7pm) and its lunchtime deals are fabulous (a little over £10 for three courses). The staff is... More

Just to say this restaurant has two doors and one lunch menu one offered at £8.50 the other at £8.85. We were seated immediately and felt instantly at home this is as like an italian ristorante in Italy as can be found in Edinburgh. A wide pasta menu and some chefs specials (pork and chickpeas and a swordfish with tomato).... More

After having made a trip in specially to book a 60th birthday dinner to request a table in the restaurant and be assured that would be absolutely no problem we were absolutely shocked on arrival to the restaurant to be told by a very rude waiter that a party were sitting at our table and wouldn't move, he said there... Hello Mrs Anderson, First of all, apologies for the mix up with the tables but we gave you a table straight away in the dining area downstairs, not the cafe. There was a delay getting you the table in the upstairs dining area because there were still customers seated there, so we thought that by giving you the table promptly... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
