With Italian being my favourite cuisine, it was inevitable we would visit an Italian restaurant during our 2 night stay in Edinburgh. We were lucky enough to get a last minute reservation and the whole experience was just fantastic. The staff were so attentive, the food was EXQUISITE (all three courses). Fresh, tasty, just delicious!!! Cannot wait to visit again... More

We had dinner here last night and the main point I would say is that the portions are rather large! I had a delicious panzanella salad starter and my husband had olives with tapenade and a basket of Italian breads. You could have fed 4 people instead of two so I think we would share next time. That said, the... More

Six of us dined here in January to celebrate my daughter's birthday. The service was discreet but attentive and the food excellent. We tried a variety of different dishes with everyone giving positive feedback. I would certainly make a point of returning.

My friend and I dined on the fixed price menu after enjoying a show at the Edinburgh Playhouse. A nice menu choice. The staff were friendly and efficient. The food was served in good time and excellently cooked. Would be happy to go back.

Very pleasant restaurant in a busy area just off Leith Street, handily placed for a later visit to the Playhouse. Family run business, lovely food, well presented, attentive and good-humoured staff.

We (me and better half) visited recently for lunch which was great value, so a couple of weeks ago we were looking for a decent restaurant to go with 3 kids (aged 20,17,10) and 17 year old daughters boyfriend. so, my idea..."lets go to Asti", as it happened it was a great choice. Although to start we all chose differently,... More

Visited here early on a Sunday evening with my wife and four year old daughter. Excellent a varied Italian menu and catered very well for our daughter even though there isn't a kids menu. Wife had a risotto from the specials menu and I had the seafood linguine; both were fantastic. Desserts were equally good and huge. Staff were fantastic... More

I was looking for a good Italian close to The Playhouse and chose 'Asti' due to how close it was and the great reviews on Trip Advisor and it didn't disappoint. Literally 2-5 minute walk from the Playhouse/our hotel, would maybe be about 10-15 from Waverley station/princes street (and would say it would be worth the walk) The pre-theatre menu... More

We came here for dinner on our short stay in Edinburgh and it was some of the best food we have ever eaten! The service was brilliant as we asked to move table and they did everything in their power to put us somewhere more preferable, they were then very friendly and we felt very welcome! Would recommend (especially the... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
