I ordered main course scallops at a cost of £22.50. I received just four with a very small portion of potatoes which didn't even fill a ramekin dish. This option was supposed to be served with purée cauliflower which amounted to about two teaspoons worth. The black pudding made an appearance as what can only be described as black dust.

Excellent value lunch which was delicious. They apologised for the starters coming late which was nice. Great atmosphere and friendly staff made it a lovely lunch.

This is a warm, comfortable and intimate place for a romantic lunch. The staff are discreet, helpful and knowledgeable. There’s a good wine list with sensible prices and very high quality seafood. Most of the dishes have some unexpected twist or ingredients. Highly recommended.

The service was really nice, as even if the waitresses were not experienced they all take care of the guests, making sure everything meet the expectations. I would suggest to have the platter to share as the shellfish is the best quality they have among the platters. Also scallops are good and the dessert worthy to have some space for.... More

I am a foodie, a cook and difficult to please. That being said, Fishers in the City is wonderful. The head chef James truly knows what he is doing in every area from flavor, to sauces to presentation. It was a pleasure dinning here. I even went back again. I did find the specialty fish of the previous evening was... More

Have been a few times and it's always been consistently good. This time it felt a little to busy with tables too close together. The trend now for time limited tables particularly early in the evening is becoming a deal breaker as it's very annoying being given a count down to exit. It's not the only restaurant in town to... Fabulous birthday lunch with my Dad. Food was excellent, service really good. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. Shade over £100 for 3 courses, bottle of wine, coffee and liquors - good value.

We booked to visit for my birthday and from the moment we entered we felt that we were in safe hands. Good humoured waiting staff who knew about the food and wine. No feeling of being rushed, the ambience was relaxed and the atmosphere was lovely. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and my partner and friend also enjoyed red wine... More

Starters (Scallops and Linguine & Mussels) were great and fairly priced. The wine (Cloudy Bay) was very nice, if a little over-priced. For mains we ordered the Hot Seafood Platter, which at £95 we were expecting something really impressive. It almost looked the part on arrival with langoustine draped on top however it was all superficial. The small lobster (1)... More

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
