At the risk of sounding like everyone else, this place is very good. We were walking around the Grass Market area and decided to eat lunch. I expected this place to be a bar that had mediocre food. What I discovered was this place is a bar with great food. I had lamb's stew and it was fantastic. The service... More

I came here twice in a recent trip to Edinburgh. The first time was just for drinks and was enjoyable. There was a good atmosphere. The second time we came for food and were hugely disappointed. Out of the 3 dishes we ordered 2 were a huge let down. I ordered a burger and it was overcooked and they forgot... More

This is an awesome pub which I have gone to on various visits to Edinburgh over the past 20 years. This was my first time eating there. The food was ok, normal pub food, nothing really special.

We came across this bar which has a big window in front advertising it as smallest bar in Edinburgh!. Indeed inside this window room there was a couple playing music which was intimate and very good, There is also a big bar attached to this though an adjoining door.

I frequented this place recently and unfortunately I spilt half a pint across the table, asked the bar maid for a towel or tissues to wipe it up with and ended up getting chucked out!!! I don't have great hand/eye coordination and often knock things over by accident. I had been drinking but wasn't drunk and wasn't too loud so... More

When we booked our hotel Biddy's restaurant for breakfast was included. Although we ate breakfast there each day we also dined at Biddy's twice during the evenings. Let's talk about breakfast first. If you are eating here due to your hotel this a great money saver. The menu includes hot beverages, self service to soft drinks, croissants, toast with a... More

Booked table 2 weeks in advance as the trip was a holiday - staff weren't aware of booking on arrival. Table eventually sorted even though very busy! Disgusting sticky table that felt it hadn't been cleaned in ages! Menus dumped on table and had to wait over 25 mins for someone to come take our order and that was only... More

Booked for a large hen party of 25 2 months in advance but table was 45m late on arrival. Staff were not efficient enough in asking table to leave on time or move large group of ignorant guys hanging over us. Tables were sticky. We did get some free drinks to make up for the time delay but I still... More

Description
Located in Edinburgh's Old Town, Biddy's is an Irish pub and restaurant on Grassmarket with a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere. Serving hearty dishes made with locally sourced produce the restaurant prides itself on authentic homemade cuisine as well as their extensive selection of Irish whiskies. Biddy's is open until 1am all week with live music every night and provides plenty of sports coverage, especially for hurling and Gaelic football.Scottish produce, Irish foodBiddy's may be an Irish pub and restaurant but their menu also features items such as grilled nachos with salsa, sour cream and guacamole, sweet potato and mixed bean burger and chilli con carne with boiled rice.Let the restaurant chefs tempt you with the full Irish fry - an all day breakfast consisting of bacon, sausage, a potato farl (tattie scone, to Scots), mushrooms, tomato, white pudding, beans and a fried egg. Alternatively, diners may opt for Biddy's Irish stew (Granny Fallon from County Longford's very own recipe), the mussel pot with caramelised onions, Guinness and parsley or the crispy breaded haddock with chips and peas. Just be sure to leave some room for the Baileys cheesecake for pudding.Old Town accessibility & transport linksBiddy's is on Grassmarket in the Old Town area of Edinburgh and is around fifteen minutes on foot from Waverley train station. A short distance from the Royal Mile and a pay and display parking area, bus stops and taxi ranks are also close to the restaurant.Free wifi access is available every day of the week, ideal if you've got a working lunch or just feel like a nosey on Facebook.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
