Felt the bar staff were extremely rude and standoffish, will not be returning. Really nice decor and interior.

My husband and I had to revisit the street after our last visit to Edinburgh was 5 years ago. It was still as friendly and cool as before. Really great bar in the heart of Edinburgh, with good tunes playing. Great place to visit.

It was my first time visiting The Street with a good friend the other day and I will most definitely be back in a hurry. The cool decor, the quality music choice, the location was all perfect. The service was prompt and the new boy working there was very polite. The place was so clean and it was so nice... More

The Street is a great neighborhood pub to visit while in central Edinburgh. It has a bar on the floor level and a dance floor is in the basement. The pub is completely safe, the staff is friendly and the prices are cheap.

Been here a few times during the day. Friendly bar staff and a relaxed atmosphere. Easy to find - at the end of the tramline at York Place.

This is a gay bar, but welcoming to all. My partner and I are straight and had a great night. Didn't try the food, but they have a good selection of drinks behind the bar and the staff are chatty and lovely. We were there on a Wednesday night and went downstairs for Prize surprise. I've never done anything like... More

You cannot beat this bar for the friendly atmosphere. Music is always great no matter what night you go on. Staff always happy to see you and make you feel so welcome. Their downstairs club area is open till 3pm on a Friday and Saturday. Their famous shot is called a pussy bomb and is a must!!! Just watch out... More

Great cocktail bar, well prepared drinks and a decent selection of beers too. You can get food here too, but I didn't so can't comment on it. It is listed on Facebook as a Gaybar , and given that my wife was the only woman in there, it probably is; but this just seems ridiculous in 2016, can't we all... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
