Great location but mediocre dinner. Chef should visit and taste at Sasso Bar & Cucina, Bia Bistrot and Locanda de Gusti to see what great good tastes like.

We were well received even though we didn't have any reservation on a Saturday night. The restaurant is placed on first floor at the Hotel George V, so we had to search a wee bit before finding it. The restaurant is a bit too colorful for my taste; too many styles mixed and this gives the room a sense of... More

Service was a little slow. The starter of minestrone soup was watery and flavourless. The main course(stuffed pepper) was okay but the sides of courgette and roasted potatoes were delicious. The cheese board was expensive for what it was. My husbands spaghetti and crab dish was delicious - so a mixed bag altogether.

We ate here on our first night in Edinburgh and weren't disappointed. I started of with Insalata Caprese - just the right mix of tomatoes and mozzarella - and my wife had the beef carpaccio which she enjoyed. We both then had the rib eye steak which was cooked to perfection. The only downside was the atmosphere - the restaurant... More

We visited cucina for lunch as part of an itison voucher. We had vouchers for 4 people but there were 5 adults and two kids in our group - this was the start of the trouble. It took 3 times to explain that we had a voucher and would order the last adult and kids meals from the a la... More

A group of 8 of us visited for lunch. We ate off the set fixed price menu which gave us a really good choice. Staff were very attentive but informal & interacted with all of us. Food was of an excellent quality & well presented. A good experience and we wil come back.

We went for the pre-theatre menu with wine matching. The staff were wonderful, guiding us through our wines and arranged a vegetarian main course that suited our needs. We had to try the courgettes...delicious! A fun evening of eating, drinking and chatting, we'll look forward to returning in the future.

The restaurant is own the G&V hotel, where we were staying. The food is exceptional and the service excellent. Scallops, which got the thumbs up and were not shared, and bresaola to start. I had roast cod, which was delicious, with sword fish being the other main dish. Fried zucchini were good as were the roast potatoes. A large plate... More

We ducked into Cucina during a downpour in August 2016. We weren't looking for a big meal, just something to carry us over before we hit the streets again. We decided on desserts. I had a tiramisu that was okay, but certainly nothing like I expected from the price. My companion had an ice cream dessert, which included three very... More

On the menu is a listing for their famous courgettes, they are well worth a try but so is everything else. I had a fish dish and my partner meat, both were cooked beautifully with puddings that make your mouth water from just looking.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
