Recently visited Edinburgh and ended up eating here twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. Was not disappointed by either. Friendly staff and amazing food at reasonable prices. Very good portions too, which is rare nowadays! Would recommend the tiger prawn linguine, followed by sticky toffee pudding - Pay them a visit!! Wish it was my local restaurant!

It took a little getting used to going upstairs over a pub for fine dining, but we forced ourselves to adjust (haha). The Doric occupies a very small space with very old windows over looking the street below. One of the things we learned about Edinburgh is that no one hurries you during a meal. You have to ask for... More

We went for a drink one night downstairs and for a special meal upstairs the next day. Both visits were great. Food delicious, even the vegetarian options. The staff attentive and knowledgeable. Super nice, nothing too much bother. Their recommendations were spot on and we were made to feel very welcome. Highly recommended.

Nice atmosphere. We didn't have a booking, but managed to get a table on a Friday night. It doesn't look much from the outside, but trusted in trip advisor reviews, glad we went. Fish and chips does not sound very adventurous, but it was really good quality, best we have had in fact. Two starters, two mains, and a couple... More

Something for everyone, even though menu choice is limited. Freshly cooked and nice portion sizes, presented beautifully. food was delicious. Drinks a little pricey.

Visited Saturday late afternoon for some food. Good menu but we both settled on fish and chips, and ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio. Service was quick, and huge portions of very fresh haddock and chips arrived, piping hot and perfectly cooked. Wine was great too. And very reasonably priced.

This was a recommendation from a friend. I owe him big! This place was excellent. My family of 5 came in for lunch and to try Haggis for the first time. We all loved it! Fish and Chips were very generous portions. Conveniently located near Waverly station.

visited on thurs 17th nov 16 , had a drink in old featured bar , then had a meal in the bistro upstairs , for a busy place service was impeccable , food was classic pub grub but way above average , well cooked and tasteful , apparently the oldest gastro pub in Edinburgh , well worth a visit
