My partner and I booked Ronaq for an anniversary meal, the staff at the front of house were very polite and helpful. We were seated quickly and staff were very attentive - my only issue would be that at all the waiter's stay in the dining area which is not overly large and at the beginning of our meal there were more waiters than customers and this was quite intimidating as they were either congregated around the till area chatting or walking around the tables.
The service was really good though although there was a noticeable difference in treatment if you were known to the staff rather than visiting for the first time which you would expect but it was more present than I have experience in other restaurants.
We each got a main, side and a drink and all of the food was beautifully served and tasted very nice. The portions are very generous and due to this I could only eat half my meal and I was surprised when I wasn't offered the chance for it to be boxed for me to take away, I wasn't wanting to take it home but it would have been nice for the staff to offer this service as the restaurant does also offer a takeaway service.
The toilets were also very compact and there were a few signs that these could be upgraded to match the very high standard of decor in the main restaurant and bar area.
All in all though the quality and portions for the price were amazing value and we would happily return despite the few downfalls we experienced as it was overall a very enjoyable night.

We enjoyed visiting Ronaq Restaurant on a quiet Tuesday evening. The service was impeccable, the menu was extensive and alluring and food was flavoursome and tasty. Overall a thoroughly pleasant experience and recommended. Plus the views over Waverley Station certainly helped.

We ate here with friends who recommended Ronaq and the food was delicious. It's also a kind of cool restaurant with a view and modern furniture.
Unfortunately, I didn't feel so well the day we ate at the restaurant and when I almost fainted on my way to the restroom, the staff took amazing care of me; helping me over my embarrassment and making me feel comfortable. Thank you so much! We will be back.

First time ever I have had to walk out of a restaurant. Waited 35 mins for our booked table, wasn’t offered a drink. Finally seated and left alone for 15 minutes until ‘the manager’ asked for our drinks, we said we were ready for food as we had been told 45 mins previous to look at the online menu.
Starters eventually arrived and 1 was wrong, ate it anyway as had waited long enough. Food was nice.
Waiter took our empty start plates away so quickly and clearly hadn’t noticed our empty glasses?
Dinner arrived before we even seen another waiter to order a drink (probably 30 minutes).
Another wrong course. Finally got the girls attention who first seated us, she argued with me that the tikka masala is yellow (not orange) and is sweet and contains chutney. I don’t think so...
Gave up at this point, asked for them to remove the mains and get our bill ASAP, asked the girl for the manager and the original man waiter came up? Shocked if he was the manager and his lack of customer service/hospitality skills.
To be fair he offered it on the house after that and a long discussion and agreement of how terrible the management is, but we decided to pay for our 2 drinks and 2 starters. Shouldn’t have bothered really.
Don’t waste your time or money!
Also very overcrowded. Without a ruler stick I would be certain that there was not 1m gap to our next table, although we had a good laugh with them about how bad the service was! (They waited 2hrs between courses).

The restaurant was very quiet with only 3 other parties at the time of my visit. As a consequence the atmosphere wasn’t great. However the restaurant presented clean and tidy.
My partner had the Tandoori mixed grill and the chicken was distinctly off with a very unpleasant smell. My chicken and lamb biryani was very pleasant with a good flavour but could have done with a larger portion of the vegetable curry.
In fairness to the waiter the mixed grill was removed from the bill but I’d advice caution as with limited customers I would question the storage of the meat.

We went to Ronaq near Wdinburgh Waverley to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. The service was all good, but when it comes to food quality and it’s pricing it doesn’t live upto the expectation. We ordered mix kebab, fish tikka and shami kebab. Mix kebab plate had literally 3 really small pieces (one lamb, chicken and seekh kebab). It was £6.95 which was much higher than any other Indian restaurants in and around that area. The main dishes was same. Ordered for lamb roganjosh, it came with just lamb pieces with no gravy/sauce to eat the Nan/rice with. We ultimately Bhai to order another chicken karahi for £14.95 on the staff’s recommendation, as he said this dish will have proper gravy. When the dish arrived, it was no better than lamb roganjosh as we were literally looking for the gravy. Being an Indian restaurant, we were shocked to see this food quality. Overall not a great experience. Avoid going here. There are much better Indian restaurants in and around tht area. I will not give more than 2 stars.

Staying at the Premier inn next door we decided on curry for our evening meal and as this Indian restaurant was next door we thought why not reviews weren’t too bad so we thought why not ?
Ok ordered Onion Bajhi starter this wasn’t like we normally receive at any Indian we have ever been to in 37years they are a bit like Morrisons without any niceness to them in fact it could have come from morrisons???
The curry this was prawn korma now this wasn’t very good either it seamed that the cream when cooked either it wasn’t looked after or it was on the Turn it wasn’t nice at all the Rice mushroom pelaw this had far too much oil in it this evening meal as far as I was concerned was a Waste of money I would have been better if I had just given the Money to a Edinburgh charity to feed the Homeless ( not them who sit outside pretending to be homeless) my wife had same starter but chicken main course which she said how Dry it was. I don’t recommend this restaurant and I wouldn’t ever go back not even for a Free replacement meal if offered.
I always try and give a balanced review of my experience check my reviews out sometimes 5* sometimes less.

Had a nice meal on the Friday evening when we arrived in Edinburgh, so we all decided to eat here again on the Sunday. Ibrahim and Sattia served us on both occasions and were great. Wasn’t so keen on my lamb dish so swapped it with hubby for his chicken masala. roti wasn’t great but the second time we ordered a garlic and onion naan (even though it wasn’t on menu) and they made it which was great. My dad really enjoyed both his meals. The half chicken tandoori was huge and the tandoori lamb chops were succulent and plentiful. Restaurant has lots of glass so lots of great natural light and the lower the blinds a bit when the sun starts getting into your eyes.

Excellent food, City skyline setting with polite, friendly & very helpful staff who couldnt do enough to make sure guests were well looked after.
Food all cooked fresh, probably the best pakora I have ever had! Bold statement but the truth.
Main course was also one of the best with the chicken cooked to perfection,
Clean, fresh resturant with a pace that doesnt make you feel rushed at any time.
Portion sizes more than adequate, well worth a visit & we will definitely return next time we are in the area.

Tried to book online twice with automatic response advising would confirm within six hours each time. No response so phone call made and they had no knowledge of the booking so booked in at whatever time i wanted. No mention of time limit or covid criteria. On arrival checked in and shown to a seat inbetween two larger tables on a bench like seat. I was sat on the bend of the bench, and my partner sat opposite the stairwell. Plenty of people passing not socially distanced. A party of three arrived and were placed on the larger table beside us, and one of them actually brushing my arm whilst sitting down !! .. As we felt uncomfortable we tried to move our table away. We already had our main meal so did not ask to move, although we did not have any waiters to ask about the meal at any time as you normally expect. The meal I felt was rushed and as we both felt a little uncomfortable, we took our unfinished wine and after payment left. The restaurant tables were not spaced sufficiently unlike other restaurants visited, all tables were being fully used and on reflection this restaurant seemed there was nothing different in place during this Covid situation. It didnt appear a safe environment to be dining in and I had such high expectations given some of the reviews.

First customers of the evening, chose the corner window seat overlooking a busy Waverley Station and a backdrop of Edinburgh's Stunning Buildings, including the 'spiralled top' 'thing'. Far from boring, the station view provided an everchanging movement of different trains from around the country.
To the meal review; 'Q' and his team were attentive providing a first class service for a 'mixed platter for two' starter followed by a Tandoori Mixed Grill and Murgh Palak.
Excellent presentation and top taste to this series of dishes.
Edinburgh tap water, better tasting than bottled water and kinder to the planet.
We will return.

Four (family) met for business lunch, did not receive a warm welcome (like we were an inconvenience), ordered wine etc, starters came they were fresh but extremely small, mains came the chicken tikka masala was same as the korma and tough, lamb dish had hardly any meat. At 2pm the waiter came and said can we finish our drinks as we closed at 2pm, they virtually stood over us making us feel very uncomfortable. We emailed Ronaq days ago but still await a response (not professional). Do Not visit.

Food was lovely. Ordered some lamb chops, curry and rice. All I would say is that the portion sizes are extremely small for the price. Lamb chop portion was only 2 lamb chops and curry was about 4/5 tablespoons worth in the dish. Other than that it was great.

First time and will not be the last. My friend recommended it and we had an excellent meal. Food was delicious, huge menu to choose from, nice drinks list, beautiful decor and attentive staff. The restaurant manager was very pleasant and as it was my friends belated birthday he brought us a glass of complimentary prosecco and cake with sparkler, a really nice touch.. an absolutely brilliant restaurant....loved it

Nice ambience and a warm welcome from the greeter. The meal itself was ok , I have had better for less cost. The waiter attending to our table always seemed to be in a hurry and was quite abrupt at times. We dined at shortly after 7pm so they weren’t about to close. I certainly won’t be making a return visit. We expected better.

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
