At the beginning of this month (Nov. 2016) I visited Shamoli three times this year, during my only one-week stay in Edinburgh. - Until now, during my 3 stays in Edinburgh (2013-2016), I have visited Shamoli 10 times in Total. - Every time has always been such an EXCELLENT visit, with the atmosphere, fine service, and perfect food. - Thanks... It was a while before I visited this restaurant for the first time as it's a bit out of the way, but it's since become my favourite in the area. The quality and variety of the food are both exceptional, the service is reliably good, and they have an excellent selection of vegetarian items on their menu. It's rarely difficult... More

Out for the day with granddaughter we saw a guy with a massive sandwich board £9.95 buffet and children eat free. We entered the restaurant were seated and guided to the buffet after we had our starters and granddaughter a main, the waiter asked us what age she was 8 I replied. I knew then that there was going to... More

Visited here primarily looking for an Indian restaurant however I did fancy Thai also. This restaurant offers both and I thought the food was great. The prices aren't bad either.

We have tried this restaurant on two visits to Edinburgh now and on both occassions, both of us had top notch food. Last time we both tried the Thai cuisine and rate it 5 stars. This time my partner tried a Thai soup which he said was the best he has experienced, I had a vegetarian curry which was delicious.... More

Terrible food with annoying music! Service was okay; the guy didn't really help us with anything. Food had 90% oil floating in it.

As the two couples who were leaving when we arrived said, "Don't let the outside put you off, it's really nice inside". And so it was. The Thai/Indian fusion worked well for the four of us. The guys like a nice curry and the girls prefer the Thai subtlety. Ticked all the boxes. Well done. We'd definitely come back again.

Good food, decent service, nice setting. Their sign outside is deceiving but their food is quite delicious, especially the methi lamb

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
