Had lunch with a friend at Books and Beans. We sat in the outside seating area as it was still warm enough in September to sit outside which was nice. I had the soup which was nice. My friend had pancakes with blueberries which she...enjoyed. The waitress who served us was very helpful, informative and friendly and explained about toilet facilities inside and that we could go in and look at the books if we wished. The tables were clean and were cleaned as soon a a table was vacated.More

The marquee was see through so we could enjoy the experience of eating outside without getting cold or wet. The staff were very friendly, helpful and prompt while the price/food was good. It is situated in an attractive side street off Union Street. We would...thoroughly recommend it.More

The food was delicious and the service was excellent. However, they put the number of calories in each meal on the menu for every dish, which as someone with an eating disorder i found this quite triggering and uncomfortable.More

Thank you for lovely feedback and appreciate your view on calorie display. The purpose of putting the calories on most of the dishes is simply to show that Cafe food, which is often thought of as stodgy and unhealthy, is actually a normal, healthy contribution...More

Service somewhat lacking. We ordered coffee and cakes and the coffee was bought out 15 minutes ahead of the cake. We had to chase up the food order. The coffee is good and strong but leans more on the 'bitter' side. I liked it but...would have preferred to have it served hot with the scone I ordered.More

Came here a couple weeks ago with a friend and we were so well welcomed from start to finish! We were very impressed by how well this place adapted to the pandemic and all the restrictions, and despite the cafe being very busy we were...treated with patience and amazing friendliness by all the staff. We sat outside at first to enjoy some of the most delicious coffees I've had in all of Scotland, and gorgeous fluffy pancakes... in the sunshine!! (personally think this place has the best marquee with lovely flowers and a great wodden decking) One of the staff members (the manager I think?), a lovely French lady then escorted us upstairs to browse the books. She talked us through all the various book sections they have inside, and she then gave great recommendations of things to do in Aberdeen for the rest of the day when we paid. There were several lovely tables amongst all the books with a fabulous atmosphere. The staff seemed to be everywhere at the same time, running up and down the stairs yet still available for everyone's needs. Quite the team they have there, and what an amazing menu (and book selection!) as well! Would highly, highly recommend, and will definitely be coming back here whenever I'm lucky enough to visit Aberdeen again! What a gem!!More

Staff initially appeared pleasant and helpful, first issue arose when waitress informed me she didn’t know if the Mayo on the vegan burger was in fact vegan (I asked as not a big Mayo fan). I was then told by the kitchen staff they’d just...sold the last vegan burger and was offered an alternative. For my trouble I was offered a drink, I chose the organic cola, which When it came to paying the bill I realised I had been charged for. I queried this and the manager apologised before saying it had been rectified and put back on my card, it hasn’t! There were other annoyances like a lack of serviettes, given with meal. Pretty lack lustre. Not a fan of being lied too-fiddling with the card machine does not refund or credit an account!!! Wouldn’t recommend.More

It is absolutely unacceptable that you accuse us of lying and fiddling when we have your refund receipt here confirming the money paid back to you for the free drink we gave you. The only person telling untruths here is you. We all know refunds...More

My wife and I were staying in a local hotel - room only - and chose to have our breakfasts at other local Aberdeen venues. What a great decision, as we found some real gems, and Books and Beans is one of them. The plate...of pancakes with fruit and maple syrup was too big for one of the party, so I just had to help out! They were lovely.... My breakfast roll of bacon, sausage, and egg was truly 'man-size', delicious, and I just regretted not asking for my bacon to be a bit more well done - but that was my fault. All Covid-19 regulations and processes were followed and we really felt safe. Plentiful mint tea, and real tea, was provided and we had a really lovely tasty breakfast, sitting outside in the sunshine. A place to recommend.More

Best coffee shop around hands down. The staff are lovely, the coffee is so good and the books are an added bonus. Very covid safe and can sit outside under a transparent sun roof :) you have to stop here and try the coffee. The...cakes and sandwiches are also a smasher, everything is just great.More

Hiya. Peak time is 12-130 / 2. It’s not always crazy busy. Saying that though there are a couple of extra rooms where it can certainly be quieter. There’s the Barbers on the 1st floor and then a wee room on the top floor... More
